Finally got around to dialing in the scope on my GSR (the shots to the left of the knot are from neighbor's 22mag) The new "Pack Rack" on my 4 wheeler worked well as an improvised bench rest. BTW did I mention that it's loud Very LLOOOUUUUDDD
I’m a big fan of the Scout Rifle Platform. Here is a Ruger Frontier set up as a pseudo scout, 7mm-.08
@Patrick Rollins , come on, you'll need one to be on the Expat Scout Rifle Squad. We meet once a month to cook outdoors, shoot, and discuss economic theory.
Finally completed my ruger .308 scout ~3 years after I got the rifle, fixed 2.5 Leupold, warne quick detach rings, and as of today a 1 inch oil tanned leather rhodesian sling from Andy's leather off his blem section (with no noticeable blems!). My main magazine is a 5 round magpul and I have the two polymer ruger 10 rounders as back up, but eventually I'd love to get two more magpul 10 round mags. While I love this rifle and the universal availability of .308, I am seriously considering getting a poorly sporterized swedish m96/38 mauser I have chopped and recrowned to 19 or 20 inches and adding a reciver peep sight and another rhodesian sling. I have just come to really like the simplicity of a fixed mags. Plus I think I could make a much lighter and sleeker gun out of the old swede mauser.
I need opinions: I have a chance to pick up a gunsite scout rifle in 300 BO for $700. Worth it in 300? I know precious little about the blackout cartridge. Guess I should add, this would be a general purpose rifle, max range around here against deer or coyote is 200, maybe 300 yards at best for me.
I would try to find one in .308 if I were you. 300 Blackout is just a .223 case necked up to .30 cal. I’ve had a couple and and even though I’m sure it would be capable of killing a deer at those ranges it seems to me it’s only really useful as a subsonic suppressed Round
I've spent some time comparing 308 to 300 ballistics, then comparing price per round, and I was wondering what I was missing. The only thing I can gather is that if you're shooting suppressed at a hundred or less it's a good round. Looks like my 30-30 fills the bill still yet for the 30 cal category.
