Shane hasnt had internets and is having to run out of blade to make posts etc. It may take some time for the "offical" post etc. Still feel free to make one and be forever the one who made the great s35 izula thread.
TBH the Churp kinda caught us off guard and at a time when we've really had our hands busy. Jeff and Mike designed the Churp a while back for Blue Ridge Knife Company (Like the Zancudo/Avispa) While not technically an ESEE the BRK folks do a great job of taking care of customers. I plan to do a little PR work with it but we've been on the road and doing some Flood Work in Haywood Co NC.
Haven't heard anything about this one yet. A little different than the other knife offerings. Here's a link for those looking.... https://knifeworks.com/brk-by-esee-churp-carbon-fiber-2-7-d2-satin-brkc3/ Still waiting on that ESEE CR - 3.0
@Adventurer I hadn’t heard either.. Could be a interesting design. I would DEF prefer the brown Micarta handled version though
Once again..NOT an ESEE product but one designed by Mike and Jeff FOR Blue Ridge Knife Company...it's a $25 pocket folder. Don't like it? Don't buy it but it's the same set up as the Avispa and Zancudo that MANY folks have been pleased with. If you want to spend more money on a USA made folders there are many great options there. One thing we've learned is that we will never please everyone, so we do what we feel like is right for us and the company. BRK does a great job on this knife for the money and they stand behind the product.
as a southpaw, I greatly appreciate a non-frame lock folder! especially one at the $20 price point made with a decent steel and a fair hardness.
Don’t know if this is the right place or if it has been asked before but will there be an Esee 3 with the 3D micarta scales? I’ve seen the 4’s with them but only G10 for the 3.
I prefer stainless, it is just more convenient... I do have the Izula in 1095, 440c, and S35V and they all get used. I have to sharpen the 1095 a little more often to keep the rust from forming sometimes. Not a big deal but stainless is just easier. I haven't developed a preference between the 440C and S35VN Izulas yet...
In all honesty, if we removed the steel name on the stainless versions, very few (if any) could tell the difference between 440 and S35. There are differences but for an outdoor knife the 35V steel price is not worth the difference. But people want "super steels" because they believe that's what they need.
100% accurate. GENERAL steel FAMILY is more important for the overwhelming majority of applications than the specific grade. As long as it's not in a wildly inappropriate family and it's heat treated correctly for its intended context of use it's gonna' be good enough. Specific grade matters in industrial settings because of the kind of demands that sort of use makes on parts made from different steels, but for something like knives? Not that tough to make something that gets the job done well enough, and it's the geometry and heat treatment that will have much greater impact on performance. Almost any medium- to high-carbon steel will do. The biggest difference most folks can notice is stainless vs. carbon. Beyond that it's usually anecdotal observations and preferences.
