Every ounce removed in the field is one ounce less that you have to haul out. This Rinaldi utility adze does a great job of removing the waste wood from splitting the log.
Exactly what I'm looking for! How thin do you make it (special grade)? Still suitable for hogging ? Ordering in a few weeks.
I took mine down to about 11° per side, so pretty much as thin as a Mora. The wood in the photos is air-dried beech, so it's quite hard, but I was cutting through knots without issue and I was swinging pretty hard at times to bust out large, deep curls.
It's worth noting that the one shown here is my personal one, and it's about a year old. Current ones have a more closed angle to the bit and a curved handle, both of which I consider an improvement.
An adze has been on my radar for some time now. I think I would like to have a smaller one. Smaller head, shorter handle.
