mangled a 6" scrap of leaf spring and a cherry cutoff from a different project 33" head to tail, 17 ounce head, 32 ounce overall
just started a cleavers tincture. couple family members besides myself could probably use it. this is just a pint jar, i may collect another batch and do a half gallon later
cleavers (goose grass, sticky willy, etc) is a wild edible and medicinal herb. it's like velcro, sticks to everything. it's used as a diuretic and to help the lymphatic system. it's supposed to help treat cysts and fistulas, said to be useful in treating certain tumors, breast cancers, and some prostate issues.
I’m a 42 year old man playing with soup cans and lighting alcohol to boil water and smiling like an idiot! Good times. 12 holes, 1/4” size, top at rim, and again 12 holes 1 1/4” from bottom. 91% alcohol. It likes my Stanley Adventure Kettle. Boils a cup in 3-4 mins.
My leather arrived today. Threw this axe mask together with some Walmart snaps. I'm pretty happy with the outcome for a first attempt.
2nd attempt coming along. Left room for a rivet at the bottom and waiting on snaps with longer posts that will fit this thick leather better. I need get some dyes. I've been looking for a sampler set with no luck.
It occurred to me that I might run out of the 100gram micro LP cells I’ve been using. They’re wonderfully light in the pack but I can’t buy them locally, has to be ordered in multiples. (Which can be expensive.) So I need an impact carrier for the 250gram size that I can get off the shelf at the big box local WM. Keeps them from rattling around, banging into each other, getting dented or having the stove attachment nipple get covered in mud and muck. There’s of course a difference in size/weight but what can you do right? This is sheet foam packaging material I saved (pack rat ) from some office furniture she ordered. The basic design looks like this and the finished product is a 1 piece unit. Some trimming on the corners, folding, and duct tape. Its completely reinforced across the bottom, top, and inside. Then pilfer thru my collection of saved mesh bags ( more pack ratt’ery) to find one that fits, and the closure cord goes around and keeps the whole thing closed, neat and secure.
Terry that looks good to me. I don't know what to tell you about dyes. I only have about 4 colors purchased individually, myself. The dye may not go as far as you think, you don't realize it until you start on a big piece and realize that it's going to soak it up like a sponge.
make the leather damp before dying and it'll penetrate batter and more evenly on the first coat. use an oil based dye and it won't "chalk" as much after drying and before sealing. (I like sno-seal to finish my leather)
I've about stopped using natural veg. tan, just so I don't have to deal with dye. Now I'm more likely to order lighter tan colored sides and just oil them to the desired darkness, and I buy pre cut straps in all sorts of colors.
I ordered some Fiebings "russet" dye. Gonna give it a try. I ordered some Obenaufs treatment too which will probably darken it. Thanks for all the tips guys. I had already ordered the dye and the leather was just the cheapest way to get some to try.
My dye, snaps and Obenaufs all showed up over the last two days. I'm really happy with how the mask for the Trail Boss turned out! My snap setter doesn't do a good job on these snaps. Looks like I need a better one but it's functional.
