Normally I'd use a much bigger heavy duty clear bag , and tie it off so moisture can't escape/evaporate, but this ziploc was all I had today. Not that I needed to gather water this way - it was pouring rain then sunny and the creeks nearby were blown out. But it's a good skill to learn and practice, and it's literally a zero exertion method of gathering water. I placed the ziploc over a pine tree green branch end, closed the bag as best I could and let the sun do the work. in 10 minutes I had about an 1/8 of a teaspoon of water evaporated from the green tree branch. Enough to wet the lips. I'll do more of these transpiration bag water gathering soon, with larger bags that I can seal off. I'll do some too with crushed green leaves, pine tips etc.
Water gathering kit - 15 large clear poly food bags, bankline for tying off the bags on greenery, all stored in a freezer bag. Fits in a cargo pocket Going to gather water today in the woods using this method. It's 32 deg C here and very clear / sunny. Should be able to fill the canteen easily
^^ This should be interesting. ^^. Remember there is still contamination on the green world, bugs, bird poop, dust/dirt. Make sure and purify to avoid unnecessary G.I. issues.
^ will do! I usually boil all my gathered water. while I did get out into the woods today ,I was actually pretty burnt out from the trucking work this past week. I pretty much just wandered the coastline and sat for several hours by the ocean. I'll gather water this way (transpiration) next weekend, where I'll have an extra day off to train
