I can't find a thread on this and I'm puzzled by it, I got this in the mail today. Super pumped to go work with it, all I did so far is square the spine. I spent all day working on the Bolo that came at the same time, I'm now calling it the Hans Bolo Light Saber. Gave the Tramontina a beating with a Rock to make a Fire, the ESEE will be next in line. Some Curls, Fire, Anybody else have one?
Holee Molee! Those things are about as rare as woodpecker lips District 10! Looks near mint too..what magic top hot did you pull that out of?
I put up a "Want To Buy" on another site and was offered this one, I was wondering if anybody has one or has any thoughts on these? It is thinner than the Tramontina's I have, feels super quick and lite. I was inspired by Mr. Randall's faith and commitment in Machete's as a survival tool, I will be spending the coming year learning the ways of these tool's I will post up some info after I have some time with it.
Fellow machete aholic here. You’ll have to ask the og’s @Jeff Randall or @Patrick Rollins but I think those were Imacasa blades the guys were tuning up. I had one forever ago and the the thin whippy blade kind of resembles the Imacasa A11 model I have on my tool harness rig. I traded mine to another member (feel the regerts now.) because I didn’t want to grind down the nice but extremely blocky handle.
Understood, I ask myself...Tool or Collector Item? Taking small steps with it, I gave it a Flying Pass on Rock and Machete Fire. Cedar, Milkweed Fluff { flash tinder }, Chert I found up by the Canadian Border and Steel Wool instead of Char. Made a small but usable Tinder Bundle, added some Flash Tinder and stacked the Steel Wool on top. I want it ready to go when I get it lit. Easy with Steel Wool, it burns Super Hot, 10-15 Strikes Picture of the Super Rare Machete that went to the Moon, I wonder if it would throw a spark? Maybe a future Group Buy??? {Just asking for a Friend }
So, why the fixation with starting Fires with Rocks and Knives, Axes, Machete's and Bow Saw Blades? In my mind, if I had to spend a few night's out with only a Cutting Tool and what I had on...... First Night would be a Bow Drill with Cordage from my Paracord Bracelet, I'm not shy about cutting them up as a resource, it's why I carry it. I would char up some material for all the consecutive Fire's, Punkwood, Elderberry Pith and twisted Cedar Bark are my first pick's No Bracelet, I'm not afraid to cut up my Shirt for a Fire. No Shirt? I've had limited success with Natural Cordage, but it would be the Next Stop......... Let's be real, I just like to play with Tool's and Fire.....
Ok, now you have it... This thread makes me want to try a machette now Won't ne long before I think I 'need' one
These are old pics from previous posting. We did have a thread on machetes a long time ago, I don’t remember who the OP was now… Here’s the A 11. Same blade as the Esee I think… It got beaten, even cross grain, thru this seasoned oak with no damage. I thought there would be more user content on the U-tube. There’s a gazillion “survival experts” it seems but as for actual user or usage techniques….I was really disappointed. I just go around experimenting and trying things till I hit the workable solution. I like to cook and this is a great way to develop muscle memory with it. Here you can see that thin spine, which makes this one as good of a kitchen knife as you’d want.
Great info Thanks for posting it, I need to learn more about Machete's, A great tool to have around. I took the Collin's Ma Rang fishing to day. Used it on my only Fish. The ESEE Machete is in limbo for a few day's while I decide how I will use it......
