A new project we are working on is the rescue Izula named the “Imlay” that will feature a blunted tip, partially serrated edge, 440C steel and an O2 wrench in the handle. The Imlay will come equipped with a unique secondary retention device that we’ve been testing during our rope rescue, canyoneering and swift water rescue classes. The photo below is a working prototype used to prove out the concept. This is not the final version of the secondary retention.

If you're tough enough to carry this knife, I doubt you need bottle opener.

Funny you said that because Expat and us are actually in the thinking process on a larger version that is more of a dive knife. Problem with Expat is he will gay it all up with his Jimmy Buffet styling and flower designs.

I would like to test that out on my fire gear. When you say partial serrated are you thinking 60/40?

Here's the mock-up. This is the knife we have been testing but I photoshopped the O2 slot in this pic. Also, the rubber O-ring is just a test ring. The actual retention ring will be molded so it snaps in and doesn't try to come undone.

We could but would require a new sheath mold. Main thing is we need a blunt tip for working around ropes.

That looks like that would grab a seatbelt/rope nicely.

Yep. Last ditch cutting tool that is semi-safe for work around tensioned ropes and patients. It's just way too easy to cut a tensioned rope with a knife that has a sharp point. About the only time I have ever used a knife on rope (that wasn't training) was to cut away a girl's hair that was hung up in her descender. Of course, we use knives a lot on ropes and lines that are not tensioned when maintaining or building out gear, so an important tool but it just has to be multi-functional and safe.

I like the O2 slot because there still are a few tanks without the upgraded tool free valve mechanism. Also, KISS applies, but would be cool to have an integrated Nano light or similar within the tang cutout that is held by a detent. Those things are awesome for visualizing eye foreign bodies, airways, looking under rocks/cracks, etc.

I know it's been said many times before, but I appreciate the thought and effort that goes into your designs.

The thing I really appreciate is the extra hole in the handle for oxygen ventilation. The regular Izula just makes my hand so sweaty with only two ventilation holes, but this looks like it will breath much better in the hand. Thanks Jeff and Co!

You need to send that into Mike for a warranty claim. The tips snapped off. You've not been throwing it have you?

@Jeff Randall i really appreciate the idea and am glad you guys are working on this new blade. I am personally not very happy with similar style knives currently on the market.
One thing i would love to see would be a glass breaker such as below.

Add bottle opener, cork screw, tooth pick, and tweezers and sell it as a rescue SAK .
