So I have a brand spanking new esee 3hm that hasn't cut anything but paper, until today. I was working overnight in an ice storm when the driver side wiper on my truck decided to **** the bed while I was driving on an icy bridge. I tried to move the passenger wiper over to the driver side but she didn't want to come off easily, so I employed my new esee to help me push down a PLASTIC tab. Upon returning to the truck to dry off the knife before resheathing it is noticed that the tippity tip (a highly technical term) was missing. I assume it's blunted and not chipped but frankly I was shocked that it was affected at all. Is it just the thin stock of the 3 that I'm not used to or does this seem fishy? You decide.
I'm pretty sure plastic can't do that to steel. My guess is it must have hit some steel or glass in the time you where using it. It will sharpen right out in all of 5 minutes though. Sharpen it up and beat the hell out of it. It's an Esee, that how they like to be treated!
Definitely did not touch glass. If it did touch metal were talking about wiper blade metal with almost no pressure. My hand was right there and it was dark out so I was barely pushing.
This is what I was thinking. The fact that you noticed it after using the tip may just be coincidence. It's such a small blemish, it will sharpen out in no time.
Definitely didn't come like that, it's just a bit blunted. I'm not too concerned about it, I was just wondering if that seemed like normal performance to you guys.
I really don't think so, I think it was just a really thin, fine point and I rounded it over by pushing on it.
The man himself! The downside of being Canadian is that it would probably cost me 40$ just to mail the damn thing back to you. If it's still bugging me by spring, I'll bring it on a hike to Vermont or New Hampshire and mail it to you once I cross the border. I'll notify you if that's the case. Thanks Jeff, and thanks esee.
Just sharpen it a time or two.... plus after you throw it in a couple of trees it will round off quite nicely anyway...
All the tactisexual guys will tell you that needle tips get stuck in ribs. Rounded tips slide off and pentrate deeper...or so I'm told.
