Not really surprised, they weren't going to survive on their on with the poor decisions they've made over the last decade or so. Who ended up with the Cabelas credit card division? I know there was a lot of interest in it.
Cabelaas quality far surpasses anything with the Bass Pro/Red Head label. I typically buy Cabelas clothing over better known names. I really hate to see this.
Bass Pro bought some land outside Cartersville, Ga a few years ago to build a full size store plus extra land for other attractions but the plans had stalled. This was thought to be the reason (due to the Cabelas location in Acworth). I guess it was. Maybe now they'll stop seeing how many crappy little Outpost type stores the two brands can build along I75.
Not thrilled about it either. Just when Cabelas was opening a store close enough to visit, they had to do this.
Cabela's is entering into partnership with Capitol One Financial Corp to originate and service the Cabela's credit card.
Local news (Springfield, MO) is reporting that Johnny Morris is planning to continue growing the Cabela's brand alongside the Bass Pro brand. So probably won't be any big changes to either at least for a while.
From CNN Fish and game: Bass Pro Shops is buying Cabela's http://money.cnn.com/2016/10/03/news/companies/bass-pro-shops-cabelas/index.html
Bass Pro is offering Cabelas shareholders a considerable premium (thanks Bass Pro!). I don't think it will be good for Cabelas or their customers in the long-term though. I agree that the products at Cabelas are generally better than Bass Pro and I like the stores better overall. It should be interesting to see what changes.
I drive past a Bass Pro Shop on the way to Cabela's that is significantly farther away. Shrug I like the Cabela's better as well.
I can't see them losing the cabelas brand or image. BASS pro just cornered the fishing and hunting world......
Thats crazy. Both stores are clients of the company i work for (i am actually standing in Cabelas as I type this) so i doubt it will affect my job too much....i like both stores and cant afford to shop at either one....and without competition it will probably just get worse....
Time to hit a Cabalas before the selection heads south. Lots of consolidation. In my area, we've seen all the sports authority stores close and Dicks had bought another mega sporting goods store here about 5 yrears ago, name escapes me, began with a G, so now it's basically just Dicks. It's insane trying to buy the kids anything right before soccer season, store is mobbed.
