The material is on the way and I already made the whoopie slings for it. I'm thinking about not sewing the end channels and just whipping it instead. that way I can go from 12' to 10' if I want. not sure yet though. Tried something new with the tail of the whoopie. Normally you just bury it, but I decided to add the little bead for ****s and gigs.
Can you give more info on making whoopie slings please? I have tree straps but interested in whoopie slings.
Sure can. Are you using tree straps and carabiners right now? I use tree straps and I made some toggles from old tent poles, and I just tie a marlin spike hitch in the tree strap and hang my whoopies on the knot. Like this I ordered the 7/64 Amsteel from https://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/amsteel/products/amsteel I followed Brewguy's tutorial on how to splice it. He's using Dynaglide which is a thinner diameter, so you might lose a half an inch or so when you spice it. Just keep that in mind.
I my tree straps are like atlas straps, they have multiple loops to connect too, but yes carabiners and tree straps. I saw Shugs video the other day was interested in the whoopie sling and then I see it here. I like the marlin spike hitch and toggle idea now I need to order some Amsteel.
Nice. I was using the cinch buckles a while back but they ended up tearing up my straps, so I turned one of them into a belt.
There's a ton of good YouTube videos on splicing Amsteel. It goes quickly once you get it. A good wire "fid" tool is a must. You can make one easily like the one in the shot above
It really is. I'm finally starting to get a little better at it. Seems like all I want to do now is sew whatever I can get my hands on lol
HA! I haven't made many hammocks, but I know it's a hell of a lot easier than making a zipper pouch. I've made plenty of stuff sacks though My fabric is out for delivery right now so I'll be stitching this thing up as soon as I get home today.
Good old Papa Midnight. I messed up on the side seam because I didn't pin it. Had to cut it down. It's uneven now but it still works. I'm hanging in it right now as I post this. I was a little worried about hanging it over the concrete at work. I'm the only one here and if something was to fail I'd be screwed depending on the severity of the injuries. It's holding up pretty good though.
