For sure. Several of my friends are confused that I went with the hornet instead of .223. Most guys just don’t get it unless they have shot the hornet a lot before.
Out of curiosity and being one of those guys that hasn't shot a Hornet what do you like about it over the .223? I'm just guessing at this, but I can see reduced chances for pelt and meat damage due to reduced power level as being an advantage to it. I really am curious as to your reasons.
Couple reasons, some aren’t quantifiable or really rational outside of my personal preferences. -It’s slightly quieter and very minimal recoil. I have a young daughter that will need rifle education at some point. - it will force me to reload again. Working in manufacturing destroyed my love of reloading. -less destructive overall. -I wanted a .22 caliber centerfire that wasn’t your typical cliche .223 or .22-250. Not every gun needs to have optimal velocity, terminal performance, ballistics, blah blah blah. Old cartridges need more respect then a lot of people my age give them. Explaining this to people is challenging. I wanted it. Simple as that.
And only spent $30. Bucks for the Bucks and Norton stone and they're all as old or older than my truck.
That's all sound reasoning in my book. The point you made that sticks out the most for me is that old cartridges need more respect!
Was going to pick up a larger fire extinguisher for my garage. I was thinking about 5+ pounds of gun powder thousands of primers, gasoline, kerosene and more random aresoul cans than I can count and the risks of random electrical fires and everything else. Then I though, even if a fire alarm went off in my garage am I running in there considering all of that stuff to try to put it out or am I high tailing out the back door with my wife and kids. I already have a small extinguisher out there which is great if I am there when something happens. So I bought a couple of fire balls and placed them in opposing locations near possible ignition sources. They are like $45 ea so about the cost of a decent fire extinguisher but they are on duty 24/7 if I am there or not
Not super recent, but I picked it up at Wintercount. Cool Scandinavian blade made by Kasintehty Kauhavalla in Finland. Wanted one in this style for a long time.
Going to look at this handsome fellow on Saturday. Finally after years of hauling my wife and kids horses around I might be getting my own again. Added bonus, his name is Ruger haha
You know they eat and poop a lot right. And everything they need costs a lot. I think you should just get a few more rifles
Lol you've never seen my back yard, I assume. Last year I traded dirt and manure for beer on Craigslist. I don't think I bought a single beer all summer. We just sold 2 horses last week, so we've opened up some room for him to fit right in. I do need more rifles though...
