That is a massive skillet. Reminds me of this bread loaf pan we bought. Great for cranking out an insane number of mini loaves (especially banana bread), but barely fits in the oven and is a pain to wash. But, when you're making treats for the entire medical clinic, it's a damn fast way to get it done.

My girlfriend wasn’t feeling well for Valentine’s Day so I tried to make her a nice dinner tonight to make up for it

This is a sake, mirin, miso, and honey glazed Chilean sea bass. I had no idea it was so expensive!

French onion soup. The girlfriend found the ceramic crocks on sale at the outlet mall, and so what's a guy to do?

A 2 pound bag of sweet onions made enough for two servings. Used around 3 cups of beef broth, a nice hunk of Gruyere cheese, and turned some homemade sourdough into croutons.

Ohhh Yummy. (I love French Onion!) I haven’t seen any of the thin wall enamel coated saucepans in a long time…good ones like granna had in her kitchen an age or two ago.

I've only seen the ceramic crocks for French onion soup. These don't really have a lip like many of the classic ones. But the classic ceramic ones are just extortion on Amazon, and I don't want to buy a case of them from webstaurantstore.com, so I'll take these from the outlet mall. The handle actually was nice once they cooled off enough to not remove fingerprints ;)

Even if it’s something simple, it should still be delicious to eat.

    20240307_153942.jpeg
..and of course it’s going to take over the ENTIRE kitchen!

    20240307_153955.jpeg

    20240307_185634.jpeg
    Well it looks promising.

    The bread selection..not so much.
( It was actually buttery and flaky, tasty, just slightly lacking in the beauty department. ;) )

:D FRAY BENTOS Onion & Cheese Pie :D

    IN A TIN

This cost $11 CAD . It’s gotta be British or UK …. :p. It’s literally an unbaked pastry onion & cheese pie, with oil, in a sealed tin.

LINK : originally from Uruquay , now owned by UK food company BAXTERS

The history of both companies is incredible .

I freaking LOVE food oddities like this! :)

Well , let’s open this tin of onion / cheese pie

    IMG_6101.jpeg IMG_6102.jpeg
Took a bit to can open the tin
    IMG_6103.jpeg

    Um……:confused::eek: what is this ? :confused::D

well…. Here we go… into a greased skillet and into the oven . Pipsqueak Cat is looking at me asking why I’m baking his furball upchuck :D:p:D:D:p:D:D:D:p:p
    IMG_6107.jpeg

Stay tuned for tinned pie after it’s baked!

    :)

    EDIT

OMG it’s been in the oven for 4 minutes and it smells AMAZING

    EDIT2

Omg my apt smells amazing right now!!
    look at this!!

    IMG_6109.jpeg

    Almost baked!!

    IMG_6111.jpeg

apparently these are to be baked in the tin itself after you remove the lid…. Oops. (I’m sooo gonna buy more of these for camping, and bake them in my Coleman folding camp oven )

either way , it’s growing / expanding in the skillet.

    And here we go!

    IMG_6112.jpeg IMG_6113.jpeg

Not gonna lie, this tasted amazing

I’m convinced this forum and the Becker Knives enthusiasts has produced more chefs in the world than any culinary school

Simple yeast bread, steam baked in Lodge Combo Cooker Dutch oven with tight fitting lid for 30 min,(the amount of steam was incredible ) then lid off for 15 min.

even with lid off and nice golden brown crust, the crust is not dry or crackly , it’s springy .
