Nice frozen Foggy day today. Saw one coyote, one beaver. The beaver was pretty funny to watch running on the dry ground like a fish out of water, wish I had my big camera with me. The creek here runs under the ground for a few miles, he must have been going between the open water.

Probably a little bit. Little less than in spring as it’s still getting a bit cold at night. I’m sure the ocotillo will bloom, maybe a few others too. I’ll try to pop back out within the next couple and snap some photos.

Picacho Peak AZ State Park. View from the top really isn’t that interesting, but the trail to the top itself is very interesting and entertaining. It had been on my “to hike” list for a while, so finally got it done. Camped at the park overnight as well. Fun short trip and hike. 5FECF945-4558-48AA-AAE2-A8C05B8C95CA.jpeg 423EDC09-BA9B-4F39-B1EC-39122A10F3D3.jpeg A2B8A41D-99E4-42E2-A3DA-7FFB1B4F5DEF.jpeg B1E59A36-41DA-407E-9E2D-A4BC429D5930.jpeg 83ED996B-2048-4DF6-913D-80371AE3838D.jpeg 7B747777-B0AB-4495-835D-28610C9B2CEB.jpeg 7BFBB36A-B1D9-4122-93B1-C430D715EEEF.jpeg 552CF66F-320A-4934-B715-51B6599E16F0.jpeg 4F036BEC-607C-4844-9D3E-42D30ECB64C8.jpeg

Another day out in the frozen scablands. First trip with my new Haley Strategic Micro rig. Working out pretty well, still need to add a few things but sits nice even over the multi layers I had on today. Spent most the day tracking cats N dogs ha ha ha.

One coyote bagged in the afternoon. The cat got up on some exposed rocks and I lost the trail for a bit... found a large rabbit warren and more tracks suspect it is a frequent spot. I hope to get back out after it.

KOOL! I appreciate the report. We know why they call it hunting as opposed to shooting. ;)

I definitely couldn't have my gloves off taking pics for very long. When I wasn't taking selfies I had my hat, sunglasses and facemask on, plus constantly moving, so I stayed warm.
As much as I've spent on Arcteryx and Outdoor Research clothes, I better have been warm.
They did block the wind tho.

I think you should start a topic reviewing cold weather clothing. My first entry would be a real wool sweater under your coat. I'd be interested in hearing your take on this gear. :)

Oddly enough I dress pretty light. Because I'm constantly moving and as fast as I walk, worry is getting too hot and sweating. But I may take some pics of my outfits laid out these days to show what I wore.

This pic was taken the first day I got there. 0F with -22F windchill. I had to have my face covered to stand it.
I wasn't hiking then, just outside our place taking pics.

Little warmer weather melted some of our snow, went out to find lost arrows from a stump shooting hike a few weeks back.

Out in the Scablands again. Decided to practice shelter building today. Not many materials around out here unless you want to weave grass or stack rocks. Made a kind of "debris shelter", surprisingly warm.

Out getting some fresh air, we had a brief warm up thought I would take advantage of the nice weather. Freezing temps and high winds coming shortly.

This lake was covered with 4" of ice last week.

Found these two sleeping behind a rock on the shoreline. They were not in the entertaining mood ha ha ha.

Spring is just a couple of days away and recent rains have created a lot of track traps. My wife and I went for a little hike today and we found some tracks but this one has us stumped. There appear to be 5 toes here [one next to pen body], maybe a double tap? Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

It’s starting to be blackberry season in my zone..

    Gloves to protect the hands.
Machete removes weeds or un-useful growth from around fruit bearing vines.
Staff transform you from an unsteady back pain enhanced biped to a steady supported tripod..
It also gently lifts vines and opens up thick patches to reveal hidden fruit Or resting copperheads. ;)
Pouch holds plastic collection container, gloves, anything useful.
Collectors Helpers bark a lot, tromp thru vines with wild abandon, bring endless sticks to be thrown, and sometimes pee on the very fruit you’re trying to collect! :D
