Yes! Yes! Julia and I do love shooting archery. Traditional archery. We shoot Deadwood Longbows. I'm sporting my newest DL which is 66" 43# @ 30.5". Julia is still shooting her 64" longbow 30# @ 25". This past weekend was the Chamberlain Archery Shoot. Compounds need not apply!! Trad is the word! In one pic of three beings is MtnFolkMike to the left. Amongst the many archers which are great people to hang with were others like Brian (Sargent Edged Tools) Damian (First People Tools) and Caleb (Angler Knives). MtnFolkMike has the pics of those guys. This shoot takes place on one end of the Chamberlain Ranch of about 8,000 acres which is also just a few minutes down the road from Never Never Land. Amusement rides for ALL!!!!!........who are under12. I'm forgetting everything I had in my head as "filler" so here's some pics... but not many..... .
MMW do you shoot three fingers under and sight down the arrow or split finger. I used to shoot split finger instinctive but trying out three fingers under and sighting down the arrow. My black widow is tillered for three under and I’m a lot more accurate but having a hell of a time sighting down the arrow.
I swing both ways....wait that didn’t come out right. Anyways I shoot a recurve and a wheel bow . If you are going to move into the trad world start light, like 35-45 lbs. way different muscles and you’ll just get bad habits shooting an over weight bow. I have Fred Asbell books on shooting, if you want to read them PM me your address I’ll ship them to you.
3 under and sight down the arrow. Point On or Gap Shooting. Whichever you prefer to call it. Transitioning from instinctive shooting my biggest thing is to pick a spot and focus on that spot every time. I noticed the other day at the range while practicing I was constantly moving my eyes between the impact point and my Gap point thus causing some bad hits.
