Glad to hear you're still enjoying that one. I waffle all the time on whether I should get one or not. Luckily I don't have a 9 1/4" wrist to deal with. I've always wondered what a watch would look like on a tree trunk. ;) I can't get away with anything smaller than a 40-42mm watch on my 7 1/2" wrist. I couldn't imagine you wearing something vintage in the 35-38mm range. It would look ridiculous.

Fantastic group there. I thought about the Jack Ryan watch for a while, how do you like it?

My Hamilton Field Khaki. As you can see, it gets a lot of wear. My wife gave it to me on our wedding day.

The Jack Ryan was a wedding gift from the wife, but to be honest, it's been back to Hamilton 3 times. The first, on my honeymoon, it was submerged in the pool and leaked. The next two, it's not keeping time, as in loses MINUTES per WEEK! If it's not worn daily, it's in an auto winder, it just won't keep time. My jeweler is working with Hamilton for a replacement. Other than that, I really like it.

My Khaki keeps the best time of any watch I own. It gains 1-2 sec/day at most. Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble, hopefully they'll get it worked out.

I like to know how accurate my watches really are. When it comes to testing in general (for any device) there are standards, protocols and process controls that allow test results to be controlled, generate reliable interpretable data, that can be repeated and yield similar results. To that end I generally calibrate my watches to an atomic clock that is kept on our computers at work. I prefer to set them at daylight savings time changeover in the spring and fall. My data is collected over a longer time interval. (Consider if you could only check your watch 12 hours after setting the time and it had gained 0.4 sec. You cannot discern less than 1/2 second on a moving sweep hand. And you could not extrapolate that data over the course of a year to project a watch that gains 182 seconds/year and within any degree of repeatability.)

Currently I am 44 days into my new Eco-Drive that I have posted a picture of above. At the top of the last minute, that I checked earlier this morning, this watch was running 20 sec fast after 44 days. Extrapolating that data point yields an annual gain of 166 seconds per year or approximately 14 secs/month. I was looking for a little better result than that.

I own a Seiko and a G-Shock that both get under 10 sec/month. These watches are all Quartz movements. Is that important? No. That's just me being anal. Consider the following. The official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (know by its French acronym COSC) that certifies watches as Chronometers has established the following standard for certification chronometer; -4 sec to +6 seconds gained or lost per day. That level of accuracy gains certification as a chronometer. I will remind you that the certification is for mechanical watches only, e.g. your typical Rolex.

Secondly, there are 86,400 seconds in a day so over the course of a 30 day month you have 2,592,000 seconds. If my Citizen is accurate to within 14 secs/month it means that it has an accuracy of 0.9999946

Folks what we have here is an exercise in mundacity. But that's okay because in my little world I like watches and this stuff is entertaining to me. :) It just may be to someone else as well.

^ To be fair, I'm on the opposite of the spectrum.

I like watches that works and looks good to me, whether they gain or loose 1 minute every day it doesn't really matter as I've got couple of pieces on rotation so pretty much need to set the daily.
If I want precision I just go for digital - in my case timex.

...and oddly enough I've never been late to anything:)

Good, now explain this exact thing to my wife. Honestly I expected better results from that Citizen as well. I have a Deep Blue with a Seiko NH35a movement that loses minutes per month, and they won't do anything about it because it is in spec.
