Here's a thread for discussing bumpers, sliders, skid plates, etc., whether aftermarket or stock/modified stock.

Installing these this week on the 4Runner. Only reason I want them is so I can use a Hi Lift to jack this plastic coated vehicle up if I need to.

Sliders will likely be the first major addition to our truck. Other than providing a jacking point, they, along with skidplates, really help those of us who tend to drive by Braille.

Yep, but you add an extra brace and bolt and then you can jack the whole side of the vehicle up

Strigidae, here is a list of folks offering sliders. This was from a thread on another forum (T4R.Org) specifically talking about 4th Gen 4runners, but I'm sure they offer them for the 5th Gen too.

Mine has an ARB Bullbar, side-rails and steps/sliders. The rails/sliders are one piece that then provide some protection for the front sides and are bolted with pipe couplers to the bullbar. So in effect you have steel up the sides of 3/4s of the vehicle and across the front. I have a Kaymar bar across the back. Both the bullbar and Kaymar bar have points were I can SAFELY jack from with the HiLift (using a neat ARB adapter) I can always go in under the sliders if I need to lift a side as well.

We're planning on keeping the 4runner fairly simple since it'll also be my wife's DD. Sliders in the immediate future and maybe a hidden winch mount (similar to what @JAD has) at some point. Although by then we may reevaluate whether we want a full winch bumper instead. Or neither.

Mounted these today. Bombproof. Already tested them with the Hi Lift and they work great. Solves a lot of issues when it comes to offload jacking with the damn Toyota toy jack.

We'll probably end up with either those or the White Knuckle ones.

I liked the white knuckle style on the tacoma but the 4 runner uses U bolts to attach and im not keen on that.

I completely missed that, even though it shows it in the pics and clearly states it in the their product description. Thanks for mentioning it.
The Shrockworks mounting plates definitely look more secure.

I researched sliders a lot before buying any. The bottom line is if you can't use them to jack up your vehicle then they're not worth buying because they are nothing more than ornamental and are not going to protect the vehicle or help you in anyway. As I've said, my only reason for putting them on was for a Hi Lift jack point. The added protection they provide is just an incidental plus for me. Mine will probably see double use as a rope anchor for doing technical rescue scenarios also :)

the Diesel Jeep has an ARB hidden winch bumper with builtin Hi Lift jack points, The rear diff is beefed up with an 1/2" thick ARB solid steel diff cover, and on the rear hitch (Heavy duty with Grade 8 mounting bolts) I have a Smittybilt hitch recovery/anchor point

at some point, after the turbo is replaced and other engine work is done ($3000 , still saving up) , i plan to add Sliders, more for rocker panel protection from FSR water bar ingress/egree, than bashing it over rock gardens or using them as lifting points, as I plan to keep the Jeep on FSR's rather than bush whack with it.
