I'm getting near the point of needing to put new tires on my daily driver that spends a lot of times off road, in muddy, rocky southern woods. Sharp rocks, roots, tight trails that eat sidewall.

In the past I've run BFG KOs a lot, on several vehicles. I was happy with a set of Cooper ATs and am really interested in the newer versions.

I'm at 70K + miles on my second set of Falken Wildpeaks. I did a five tire rotation until about 40K miles when I got lazy. They last as long as Michelans with better on and off road performance.

Unless the latest KOs are lighter than the Wildpeaks AND they've improved their performance on wet roads AND they don't get significantly louder at 30K miles anymore then they are out of consideration.

Anyone using the Coopers ATs? On my stockish 4th Gen 4runner I wouldn't mind a lighter wheel/tire combo, as long as I don't have to baby them.

Basically, why not another set of Wildpeaks?

I love Cooper Discoverer AT3 and the new Discoverer AT3 XLT. I've had several sets. I got 60k from a 5 tire rotation with them on my Xterra and wheel pretty hard on them for an AT.

I had more mileage in them for a DD tire but they were getting down to where I wanted more tread for off-road use. I was able to sell the set of 5 for $400 to help fund a new set.

They were quiet and durable. I regularly ran them at 16lb off-road.

I bought Nittos and don't do that. They're heavy and loud. I run the same size tire on my truck and Xterra so the truck gets new, fresh tires for towing and the Xterra gets the old tires to wheel and wear out. I'll be so glad when these Nittos are done for and I can swap the Coopers onto my X.

My Avatar is my X on the Coopers in Tarryall, CO running China Wall after driving there from Va. And they had probably 30k on them at that point.

BUT, the Wild Peaks are good too. I have seveeal buddies who run them with no issues, I've considered a set as well. But I just keep going back to the Coopers because of the good service I've had from them. In fact, everything I own right now except the Xterra is wearing Coopers.

Oohh man. I’m a nitto fan.
I correctly have the ridge grappler on my ram 2500 and in the winter I run the mud grappler. They a loud and I love them. I had the terra grappler those were kick ass also.

I'm running G1 Terras. I honestly thought something was wrong with my truck (2000 K2500 GMC) when I had them put on. Then when I swapped back to Coopers, my power and acceleration magically came back and I lost almost 2mpg with them on my Xterra.

Lost track of how many sets of Coopers I have run now across multiple vehicles. Can fault them at all. Only one puncture in all those sets. The set I got in the 90s donated two tyres to the trailer I built in 2016 (after sitting under the house for years), one of those failed (got me home but the belt had failed and the wall bulged) in 2018. But Wildpeaks are good as well !

Terra Grapplers. Don't get me wrong, they go really good and are plenty tough, but they are quite a bit louder and heavier than the Coopers.

Yeah I have never had the coppers but they are definitely a heavy tire. I run the ridge grappler now. Great traction off road and great sidewalls. but they are amazing on pavement. Exp after having the trail and mud

Had another set of Wildpeaks put on today. I generally dislike spending money on stuff like tires but they do the job so well that I really didn't mind it. Much.

Our (adult) kid has a Forester. After talking with several people it's most likely getting Wildpeak AT/trails, or at least that is my suggestion. Lots of excellent reviews of them, including a couple of folks who just got back from Alaska and South America. Where the kid lives the snowflake rating and extra grip will come in handy.

Two sets of Wildpeak AT/Trails going on this week. One on a Forester, the other on a RAV4 hybrid. The first sees lots of snow and barely maintained dirt roads on their daily commute.

The RAV4 will be on potholed, poorly maintained city streets with lots of dirt roads on the weekend.

I'll try to get opinions after they've both used them for a while.

This set of Wildpeaks seem louder than the last one, but it might just be that I'm getting more sensitive to noise as I get older. Still ride great and offroad performance is awesome.
Drivers with the AT/Trails have no complaints yet. I'm interested in how the ones on the Forester will do once winter gets there.

In related news I drove a Crosstrek with new BFG KOs for 4 hrs in the rain. The newest version is definitely better on wet pavement. And the Crosstrek hybrid is a fun little car.

I have been running the cooper st maxx for 8 years , I'm on my 5th set. I love them,I spend a lot of time off road, gravel shale, mud and dirt. I have hauled a 2500 lb water tank about every 2 weeks living offgrid and 2 tons of stone in the bed at times. I'm not easy on them about 40,000.miles a year and tow a 4000 lb tool trailer 2-4 times a week. They have cut n chip resistant tread and 3 ply sidewalls ,I get 65 000 out of each set on my 2019 chevy 1500. I have never( knock on wood) had a flat or failure. Give them a look. Also I have lately been finding them in bless showing up about 2 hrs from me for 750.00 I'm going to try to get a set here soon.

At this point I'm pretty set on only buying Falken tires for our vehicles. Cooper and Continental would be next, depending on vehicle and need. Hercules ATs are worth a look for ATs, also. Still waiting to see how they do past 40k.
I'm not sure how Falken makes an aggressive AT handle so well on wet pavement but I played around on a wet skid pad recently with them and had onlookers coming up to me telling me that they were waiting to call the ambulance. I was being stupid with my driving but have experience with them in wet.

We now have Falkens on a 4wd, AWD and FWD vehicle. Really impressed with the company across their product line.

I was very interested in keeping close to factory weight and these are very close. I’m on my second winter and so far they still look and have a lot of tread left.

I am a NITTO fan having gone through a bunch of KOs but have been impressed with the Wildpeaks on East TN terrain.
