One of my favorite YouTubers that I found this year just posted a new video on a primitive "Spanish Windlass" trap, a very cool engine and a trap that I have not ran across before.

By "primitive" I mean non metal type traps....

Anyway, I'm going to post up some other ideas, videos, tutorials, resources, etc as I come across them.

Another one I don't think I have run across in my library of books or seen elsewhere.

Those windlass traps have a thump to them. Thankfully im rich with bailing twine and can play with the idea.

I would think that using cordage that had a little stretch to it would enable you to really crank the windlass up without worrying about breaking the cordage. I am thinking nylon or shock cord. Not as primitive, but maybe more effective.

Wonder if using vertical sticks that have a little flexibility to them would accomplish the same thing.

    Thanks for posting.

Going to practice that bamboo trap.
Just don't know what I would do with rat/mouse if I caught it.
Would have to be a few days into starvation to go there. Never been that far down the road; guess I would do whatever it took. Shrugs...

Rats and mice are pests. Do not feel obligated to eat them just because you killed them. They carry disease, pee everywhere they walk, nasty vermin. Eat them if you wish, but don't feel like you have to.

Maybe we have just found a use for the AH-1 Arrowhead. I only have a half dozen of them. Need something to use them on.

On Alone last night one of the guys set up a windlass. Didn't get anything, last night, but it was interesting to see.

That was a cool trap. That guy has a mind of ingenuity. Working himself to death though, with no calorie intake.
Don't think he will make it.
    Squirrel tacos? blah...

Almost 40 days in and we still have 7 contestants. Good deal. I am thinking that they, season 3 contestants, have learned from seasons one and two on what it takes mentally to make it to the end. We were just introduced to the guy who is conserving his calories. Interesting comment he made about not setting up camp on the top of a hill that you would have to burn a bunch of calories just to get water and to fish. And we have a guy who chose to do just that. Pretty prophetic. He might be my new choice for who will win.

Here's another one from Shawn Woods that I have not run across before. The ingenuity of "primitive" peoples never ceases to amaze me.

There is another video of a modified hoop snare with a penny (copper) that flat out works. I tried it on my hand and the only way To get the snare off is to manipulate the penny, way better than the old slipknot.
