I looked through the thread and didn't see one, and surprised that this knife doesn't get the love it deserves. This is probably my favorite esee next to the esee 3. It feels perfect in my hands, the weight is perfect and I love the looks of it. I did a few mods to it, adding a 90 degree spine, etched and stripped, and of course the bear paw. I started to make a lanyard hole but I don't have the proper drill bit yet. I added my glow in the dark atlus Sheath custom 1/2" RedBear ferro rod and I plan on adding a dangler and pouch to it later on. I also flattened the swedge so I can legally carry it here, not as an edc knife but for camping and so I can baton with it without demolishing the baton too bad.
I am a militant "no choil" guy but gave in several years ago and bought a Laser Strike (although in my opinion the front finger groove is part of the grip and not a choil). It didn't click with me after the honeymoon period so I let it go. I also had a ESEE 5 and got some of the first TKC aftermarket grips on it. I liked it better but the weight did get to me after a while as I just wanted a general "field knife" (although IN THE NICHE IT WAS DESIGNED for, it's probably one of the best in the world in that genre). While it wasn't a pressing matter, I'd had my eye on the CM6 for a while, and decided the next time I see one in person I'd make a point in handling it. That went on a year or more. I FINALLY got to hold a CM6 at SMKW last Saturday and it will likely be my next knife, along with the scales from TKC. Ill make a lanyard hole but other than that it will be "one and done" (I hope!)
Nice mods! I’ve been intrigued with the CM6, but never had the chance to handle one. I had a 6-CP I nodded as hunting/game finishing knife that matched a 3-CP I modded identically with knocking down the shoulders of the clip point and convexing the swedge to razor sharp. Had a coworker that loved them and offered me enough to sell both without hesitation since if was needing funds to finish an AR 308 build. A CM6 would be a great replacement to the 6-CP I had, especially since its swedge doesn’t take up as much of the spine.
Thanks man. I think you'd be surprised how well the CM6 feels. For me it's a really good fit even with the stock scales and definitely feels better than the stock esee 6. I've owned a 3 and 4 clip point, but they are illegal to carry so I try and stay away from them. Plus I like to baton and they don't work too well with that either. I'm with you on the swedge of the CM6 also, as I don't think it needs to be very long to be effective.
Well I finally have one in my collection. Received it today as a gift from my oldest son. I have a good feeling this one will become a main field knife for work when I’m not in need of the Junglas for trail trimming.
I’ve been asking myself the same thing since I got this one. I’ve also wondered the same thing about the Laserstrike over the years which was my first Esee and favorite midsized model until I got the CM6. I’m finding that it and the LS handle very similarly in how they’re balanced, and they cut/slice very similar doing kitchen prep.
Realized after using the CM6 some more that it looks like a scaled down Junglas with the swedge added.
This thing just keeps surprising me, the more I use it the more I don’t understand how it’s not more popular.
