I really only use the JG axe regularly. AZ Sonoran Desert allows one to get by without. But carving projects like a small axe. 6D5EAD5A-EB9D-4677-82E1-3F3BF6EA9387.jpeg

Mines always took a good edge easily and stayed sharp a long time.

Got this today. Not sure what I think of it fully yet. Its got some pretty wicked vibes when it strikes compared to the old wooden handles im used to. 20220926_162801.jpg

Fiberglass handles are hell on the working man. I used to cut the heads of sledge hammers with fiberglass handles when they would show up on my job site. If you need something that can be left to the elements for occasional use or to learn with they are great, hard to get more durable but they destroy joints with prolonged daily use.

I used to build barges and river boats. I spent a lot of timing swinging 16lb hammers and I never had an issue with a wooden handle causing pain. I've never really split much wood before so I'm learning here, but I'm thinking a wooden axe would run smoother.

This custom Hawk from Walk By Faith 777 forge turned out absolutely amazing. The whole process was smooth, a few emails to explain what I was looking for, a loosely drawn picture from me, and a little while later this handmade beauty shows up.

I specifically wanted something that had a little more splitting power than my normal hawk. I also wanted it compact, not just heavy. This fits the bill like a glove, and the added bonus of being able to swap handle lengths, and use the head without the handle. The hammer has a little bit of a hook on it for reaching and pulling root balls, shoots and other stuff from thickets. I can not wait to hit the trail with this fine tool this summer!
