It's literally such a clone of mine that a couple days after I had done it up I accidentally grabbed it instead of my own when I was about to go out and do some work with it! Got about ten steps out the door and then realized it didn't have the cardboard mask on it I keep on mine, or any of the familiar scuff marks. :D

That's what happens when you have a touch of OCD and you find stroping relaxing!

I was shocked at how deep! Got some seasoned oak and thought id see if it would split it. Went right through like butter every time. Earned it a nick on the handle. Thats the reason for its little bib. :)

That's why they make them without a poll! It allows them to make the bit deeper for a given head weight so you have more space for the bit to penetrate. Just imagine if the bit were shorter like on an American axe--you'd destroy your handle in no time because of how easily it sinks into the wood. :D

I was not ready at all for how well it performed. Around the farm ill suffer with my feed store axe but this calabria will get to go to the woods where time is important.

The great thing about it is it makes it so you can take "lazy" swings. Speed is only one measure of performance! How hard it makes ya' work is another. Makes it easy for you to chop all day, literally whistling while you work, and not feel fatigued by the time you're done.

Just arrived from @FortyTwoBlades is this little beauty, Rinaldi Milano with the stock handle on it and the custom handle Benjamin made for me with a little more length.

    With the long handle inserted.

Fantastic axe to work with. Always great stuff from Baryonyx Knife Co.

@FortyTwoBlades -- I cannot believe how good of a splitter the Milano blade is. It went through stuff that my other axe wants to just imbed itself in. I also tried some side splitting (laying the piece of wood on its side to split it). This axe knows how to separate fiber. :D

Secondly, I liked removing the handle to touch up my blade after cutting. That was not a consideration when I purchased the axe but is definitely a great feature, as I now realize.

Thirdly, when I choke up on the handle, my hand on the handle just underneath the blade, this broad pattern feels like using a cleaver. I like that.

You can also use just the head like a hand plane. The eye is just the right size to grasp like a handle. :)
