Took a color tour Fall drive to the SMNP yesterday. Just up the road from home. Saw 3 deer, 2 bear, Turkey and a coyote. Cades Cove Loop was busy until we went up Rich Mountain Road which ends up in Townsend only four other vehicles. Great day for the Jeep Sunrider top back. Cades Cove from Rich Mountain Summit. @Dennis Adams, do they still close Forge (?)Creek Rd during winter? Have they improved (ruined) it yet? It used to be a fun little way out the area. One of my favorite weekends in the Smokies as a teenager was spent camped off of it with some friends.
The general Park statement: Facility Closures. Roads, campgrounds, trails, backcountry campsites, etc may be closed as Environmental conditions or operational capabilities change. Check the Website. Many roads are closed for the season, including Rich Mountain Road, Parsons Branch, Clingmans Dome, and I'm sure there are others.
