Finally got to shoot these.... well three rounds anyway. I let my boy shoot the rest. No recoil but they are NOT subsonic. About 3" low at ~60yds (I was aiming an inch high). That's with my rifle zeroed at 100yds with Federal 168gr gmm. These are great fun and would be perfect for small game under 100yds... who needs a 22LR :D

Target is just to the left of the swing set.

Hodgdon says you can go down to 10gr and specs 1176fps out of a 24" barrel so that may be real close to subsonic out of my 20" barrel. I'll try that next and then maybe heavier 180gr pills.

Garb a few of the 220 amax. Might as well go big.

My Tikka CTR only has a 1/11" twist rate. I don't think that will stabilize a 220gr bullet. I did load some 208gr AMAX but not with Trailboss and have yet to try them... maybe tomorrow.

Yeah that might not be the best bullet choice.

Might put the bullets in the target sideways which on the bright side makes a bigger hole.

Just fyi... I don't normally shoot of the back deck even though I would like to.:) I have a 100yd range setup back in the woods with a 10ft high wood backstop. However, in this case, I still have an immediate 8ft or so increase in elevation directly behind the target. Beyond that is about 75yds of woods with another few feet increase in elevation. At that point there is a 3ft high stone wall. Then another 200yds of woods. Then an open field with an additional maybe 15 or more ft increase in elevation.

Looks like they are nickel plated cases but the plating is crinkled? I'm not sure... I think you can reload nickel plated stuff but seems like you have something else going on there. If the nickel is flaking off, I wouldn't bother with it. o_O @Andy the Aussie may know better.

Winchester ballistic silvertip, yes nickle plated/no not crinkled. Corrosion/pitting in the chamber allowing case expansion

Nickel is harder than brass. I don't think you want it flaking off inside your reloading die.

Exactly, hence the need for replacement barrel.

I asked a gunsmith friend of mine about that, cheaper to just replace entire barrel.
But does allow for different caliber option such as 270,300, etc.
