Got out and did a little shooting today. I have always loved bow hunting. I finally gave up the compound bow and went traditional. Any body else hunt with archery equipment?

Did the same 4 years ago. Love the recurve over compound.

Will get into it when I get to Scotland, since I can't easily own guns there.

Been researching it for years. Going to start out with a 30 lb bow to learn technique. (I'm 66 and 140.)

Oh, forgot to mention. Leaning toward one of these for starters.
Liking the simplicity and take down for packing. Smaller riser for my smaller hand.
Go up and down in weight by replacing the limbs.

Hoyt makes some nice bows. I have been eyeballing that same bow lately.

I have a Samick Sage. I have had it for about 4 years but just got really serious with it a couple years ago. I started with 45 pound limbs and have moved up to 55 pound limbs. It's better to start low pound limbs and move up. I can constantly hit the heart of a deer at 30 yards with it.

What are you going to use the bow for?

Been wanting to try trad. bowhunting for a while but just have never taken the time to get into it. Still carrying the bowtech allegiance each year during hunting season.

Getting back to @nathan shepherd's question about my use of said bow and arrows ... <been busy a lot>

Several answers, all related. In no particular order of priority.
    • Next year, I'll be living in a country where I cannot own guns as easily as here in the US, and I'm searching for alternative projectiles (from arrows to boar spears).
    • I practiced a bit of archery as a kid, and always wanted to get back to it, now with more knowledge and high tech.
    • Targets? Sure. Animals? Sure. Starting with small game: blunts. Fish? We'll see about that. Possible.
    • Physics. I mean, string a string between two limbs attached to a riser, exert force via a vector perpendicular to the limbs in a negative direction (aka draw), and upon release of said tension ("LOOSE!"), an arrow carrying an arrowhead is projected forth with force sufficient to kill dinner or an attacking enemy. Who'da thunk?
    • I have fantasies of being Robin Hood when I grow up. I mostly want Lady Marian.

OK, ok ... here's the real reason I'm getting back into recurve shooting.

Oh, wait ... let me clarify that. The reason is what they're looking at, not what I'm looking at.

Wait ... I'm not getting this right at all. Gimme a second ...

Ok, what I really meant was

And if I had any discretionary funds available now, I'd def take a look.

But alas, a professional project important for next year is eating my discretion.
