Randall 15, 24, 25 SAK Pioneer ESEE 3 Buck 110 But to be fair, I'm not a charter boat captain and tour guide. Yet.
2 charter boat captains I know uses f dicks as does a pro crab fisherman, he did use victorinox but once he had to take out an f dick he has stuck with them and the steel is x55crmo14 in the ergo grip line. Only thing he does to take care of it is sharpen it
Now I'm thinking about something like https://www.knivesandtools.com/en/pt/-adola-sailors-knife.htm this?
Thats a design I like. Simple and useful. Of course, my design will have a bottle opener in it. There have been occasions where bottles are consumed at a high rate on board a boat. Or so Im led to believe.
I think i will take the same approach with my knife: "Steel: Unknown". That will keep all the complaining at bay about the label. The steel flies or flops on its own merits, not based on preconceived prejudices or likes of a certain type of steel.
This. Let the steel prove itself. Keep it a big secret for a year or so. And it would be pretty hilarious to reveal that it was actually 440a or something similar with an expert Rowen heattreat.
That'd honestly be a pretty fun experiment. Play "guess the steel" for a year and then raffle a prize to the folks who guessed correctly (if any.)
I honestly think it would be like those tricks they play on the wine people. Put the crap in an expensive bottle and watch people rave over it
Didn't Jeff used to say that 90 % of the knife industry is mostly bullshit anyway? Wine peeps, knife peeps... no difference. Just market something properly and hey....profit! That's where Esee stands out. You get what you pay for. The basics, but refined.
