2 things to set it up: I live in a not so great area, we have our fair share of knuckleheads robbing people at gunpoint and breaking into homes. Also, I am an asylum seeker since 2015, lived in US since 2006. I went to school here, now I work, pay taxes, no criminal record, just a few traffic tickets. Since I applied for asylum in 2015, I've been legal to purchase firearms, but I never got a carry license, and even if I did, it would be only for a year at a time (just like my DL, they adjust the expiration date to my work permit, which I have to renew every year for $450, so I have to renew my DL every year, as well). However, about a year ago, my case status went from Case Pending to Decision Pending. As my lawyer explained, at the final stage of the asylum case, they conduct a major background check, so while they do it, they block my background checks from following through. I have all the guns I need, but I can't get a carry license without a background check. And in the midst of this craziness, I don't feel much like catching a bullet over a roll of Charmin or a bottle of Purell. I stay at home these days, but should I need to head out, especially later in the day, I feel iffy being unarmed. I feel like Will Smith in I Am Legend lol Now, a man in my position cannot afford to be all "we shall not comply" with Uncle Sam, I need him on my side. But I also don't want to be caught with my pants down by some thug. So what are my options, other than staying home? I know if fecal matter hits the fan, all bets are off, it's a matter of life and death. But this is a matter of feeling safe, which is a thin line I dare not cross. If you have any suggestions or workarounds, all ideas are welcome.
