I remember this one from the '70's. I bought their LP (digital junkies have no clue) and played it on my record player {tm} in my bedroom in the mobile home (trash trailer) just east of the railroad tracks where the diesel engines carried those cars north. I saw them live in Memphis in '70, and again in Santa Fe NM 20 years later. Watching this with a chocolate chip muffin and gin.
Then, these guys took live performance with an orchestra up a notch. I saw them in Memphis in '70, also.
It's really quiet in here. Has this thread died already? Ok, here's some early 'ardcore from a few centuries ago. ______ Is this thing on?
Neil Young surprised Pearl Jam , in Toronto Canada , in 2011....... Pearl Jam sang "keep on rocking in the free world".......and near the middle of the set, Neil Freaking Young arrives and rips on the guitar. No one knew he was even in the country EPIC
What an amazing set. I could tell from the expressions of everyone in PJ that they had no clue that would happen. And it just worked. I just f'g worked. Like this forum. Who knows how? (Rhetorical question.) But it did. I'm going to put this here, so I don't lose it again. It's got the same energy as PJ and Neil, but down south in Chile. This is Afro Beat by Newen. Afro Beat? Mix the following musical genres and instruments with about 30 spirited musicians, singer and dancers, all passionate: Nigerian, funk, horns, Brazilian, guitars, keyboards (beware the dude in green pants), and hot vocalists. Pay attention to the 1-beat stops that all in the "band" recognize intuitively. What are they singing about? What are the words in the lyrics? I don't know. But given the rhythm, soul, funk, movement, passion, I don't really care. I've been thinking a lot about this thread, which is one of the most interesting music threads we've ever had here. It's helped me understand at least two things. One, I'm always impressed by the diversity in music interests on this blade forum. Two, there are at least two ways to interpret the word song, and how it speaks to you. One is with words. Two -- and for me, the most important -- rhythm, percussion, movement and passion.
