Forgot to post these here. This was from last Saturday. We did a blind tasting of all 10 recipes of 4 roses single barrel. All were private barrel picks from different locations and all at barrel proof. After the tasting we opened up some other bottles. One that got opened is one of my favorite bourbons, George T Stagg 0210181528.jpg FB_IMG_1518398054448.jpg

What do you think of the owl rye? I usually stick with baby Sazerac for my rye. Unless I'm making cocktails the I go either pikesville or bulleit rye.

Wow, what a great thread. You guys know quite a bit about scotch. I’ve always liked Chivas personally but there is apparently so much more out there that I need to try. On the whiskey/whisky end I’m all about the Jack Daniels, Makers Mark, Knob Creek etc. what I’ve really been enjoying lately is Tullamore Dew, this stuff is just delicious and smooth.

If you like the Tullamore Dew then try Bushmills 10 (Green Label) - it's one of my top 5 or so Irish whiskys. Also try Writers Tears, Two Gingers and Redbreast 12 or 15. Bushmills also has a Red label now that is aged in bourbon barrels and it's been a hit around my house also...

I opened a bottle of Garrison Brothers Single Barrel bourbon last night that was a gift from a friend, and all I can say is that if you're a bourbon drinker and don't put the effort in to locating a bottle you are doing yourself a disservice. Charlie Garrison (The Whisky Peddler) calls it "divorce bourbon" as in something to celebrate a real milestone.

Ok, the Kentucky Owl Rye is hands-down one of the most amazing rye whiskeys I've ever tasted. Mind-blowing, and I don't use that term lightly. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to re-confirm this opinion...

Picked up this bottle last night at the recommendation of my local liquor store owner. I'll report back once I've given it an honest try. But the biggest surprise of my night was the container of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year he set aside for me. Apparently his friend is pretty well off and gets a bottle or two of Pappy each year. He had him pour some into this container so I could have some to enjoy. I'm going to savor this moment later this evening.

Careful with the Pappy's - you may never want to drink anything else again! My Better Half got me a bottle of PVW 20-year for my birfday about a decade ago, when you could still find it for "only" $120 a bottle. While I couldn't believe she spent that much at the time, I have to say it was worth every penny - the most excellent bourbon I've ever tasted. Can't believe what a bottle of PVW 20 fetches now...
