I used a product called citrustrip on most of the Esee's I took the coating off of then sanded them before forcing a patina with white vinegar or anything else acidic. I've done a couple with just sandpaper so that the coating was left to protect under the scales. Hope that help and welcome to the fold!
Thanks guys - that's exactly the type of info I was looking for! I didn't want to resort to anything mechanical - like a belt sander or grinding wheel - because I neither own them nor do I wish to compromise the HT. I have both a Home Depot and Lowes within 20 minutes of where I live, so I can probably get those products. If only. I would love to have access to a blast cabinet. Thank you kindly! The LS is my first ESEE knife, and for sure the quality is evident. A couple of tweaks to this one and I think it will work very well for me.
Thanks! It started as a forced patina using white vinegar and yellow mustard, but that's more muted now that juices from cutting veggies and blood from cleaning deer worked their magic on it.
This one's For Sale http://eseeknives.com/forums/index.php?threads/fs-custom-esee-laser-strike.928/ SOLD
Don't know why I never tried a laser strike. Aside from the lite machete, it's the only ESEE I have not owned. It looks great though and these shots are awesome.
Now that's the look I'm going for with mine! I gotta get to Lowes and pick up some of that stuff to remove the coating... Once that gunk is removed, did you find the spine to have sharp edges? I prefer that on my knives.
I always do the same with the edge closest to the choil or handle. Your Laserstrike is my favorite I've seen posted!
