This thread needs a bump since it's the official Gibson Carving Axe thread. It is that right? This fine looking axe showed up today so that I can review and include it in the OutdoorX4 Gear Guide coming out later this year. I have no doubts this model will be a be a hit when it hits the shelves. Definitelt worth the wait.

I am far behind, but the last 3 pages have made me happy... super stoked on this axe!
I believe in my review video on the original axe i showed the edge thickness.

It is my sincere hope that Esee never releases a hollow ground knife.

So I wonder if we have a release date yet? October is less than a week away!

Even though my focus has shifted to machetes, kukris and their hybrids for now, and away from hatchets, I'm still just as excited by this hatchet as I was when I first heard about it. It's not at the top of my list right now, but not far down. I will own one.

I can't remember if I read this upstream somewhere ... do we know the weight of this hatchet (w/o sheath)?

It gets more beautiful the more you use it! lol

I don't do a lot of the "larger" wood processing that you folks in the thicker forests get to do, but for the Sonoran desert, chaparral, and juniper country that I freqent, I wouldn't have an issue with this being my primary large cutting tool.

That's awesome! Honestly, I was a little dubious at first (had always liked the traditional wood hung hatchets). Once I had it in hand though I "got it". Awesome tool! You'll enjoy it!

I might struggle at first without the wooden handle but I have had a few Bush pilot hatchets that were okay but the heat treat was rough. We won’t have to worry about that with rowen lol I think I’ll love it but I don’t think it will ever be here!

Honestly wrapping the upper haft with PCord made a huge difference as far as close handling goes. But yeah, no questions on HT as far as Rowen goes.

At the time I got it the mask wasn't finished yet. I'll get one once the final design for it is decided on. Leather though is all I know. Hopefully at some point Armutus will mold some kydex for it. Would love to throw it on the side/back of a pack.

So I ordered the JG5 the day it was first available. It arrived in July and played with it a few weeks before ordering my armatus sheath for it. When I did it was August and the axe had yet to be delayed and my heart was still in one piece. (The delay broke me lol) Anyway, I asked Matt when I ordered if he would be making a mask for it and he said yes once it came out so that will be awesome. Also, I like the idea of having it on a pack etc... but it belongs on my person I feel. Back in June someone posted about the Centerline Systems Saw Pouch. I ordered it and love it. It goes on my hip vertically with my current hatchet and Laplander. I was speaking with Mark a few weeks ago about the scout since I’m a bottle kit guy not a canteen kit guy. I’m convincing him to make a Gen2 saw pouch when this comes out. I want to add a retention strap for the axe so that I can have the pouch horizontal scout style across my back with the carving axe and my saw, or any other kit I want in the pouch. So those are my plans for the axe lol
