Hey guys, as you might have seen, I recently gave up my Ruger MkIV. It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't what I was looking for, and it was the last in a long string of Rugers that just weren't right from the factory.

What I was really looking for was a kit gun, a light weight 22lr pistol that I could ALWAYS have, or store in a bob without worry. An Emergency hunting pistol.

So, it has to be small and light, because my G17 that I carry every day weighs 35oz loaded with 18 rnds of 9mm, so anything over 25oz doesn't make much sense... really anything over 20, for what I want.

Essentially, if Esee made, designed, branded, etc a pistol, what would it be? (in my eyes of course, I can't speak for them!) It really came down to the S&W 317 kit gun... and about nothing else. 12oz, aluminum and stainless, 8 shots, it looked like a win win, except about 3/4 of the people online hated it... weird.

So far my initial impressions of this pistol are really, really good. Hopefully it will put some meat on the table this fall. I can't help but feel like a lot of the complaints about the pistol online are from people who don't have something figured out, but tbh, all of the bores in my cylinder aren't exactly the same size, and we all know that S&W's qc is nothing like it used to be, so maybe they did screw quite a few of these up.

Anyways, here is the video of about 400-500 rounds going down the pipe, I have come to already love this little pistol, and I forsee shooting it tens of thousands of times before summer comes. Ill try to keep this thread updated as that experience progresses!

Doesn't matter what gun it was, Jeff would still get pissed when you threw it.

Old forum joke. Knives are always asked how they throw? Or got the new whatever and it throws well.

    I think these days I'd throw a S&W revolver before I'd throw a Ruger. :D

Seriously though, it's a bummer to hear that you've had a string of bad experiences with Rugers. I have a GP100 and a Redhawk (and an American 30.06) and they have all been true workhorses without a problem. If I was going to buy any S&W revolver these days, it would be an older one. And **** their ridiculous internal locks.

But I'll be curious to hear your long term report. Esp. if you end up throwing it. ;)

I think this would be my ideal 22LR kit gun:

I have that .22, and it is horribly unreliable.

Interesting. I've never shot one, but it gets a lot of good reviews. FTFs? Mechanicals?

I would read up on the mosquito more if your reading good reviews.
The mosquito has been a disaster since release, awful, terrible trigger, poor quality (its not made by sig), unreliable, poor customer service (its not made by sig)

    Just really, really bad.

Well hell. I like the platform and just assumed Sig made it. Dumb move on their part farming it out.

So let me re-phrase that - IF Sig manufactured this gun, to its typical standards, it would be my choice. But a .22LR pistol is pretty low on my list of 'wants' anyway, so I'll wait till they get around to it...;)

I think what would really piss him off is when you said it broke, can I have my free replacement please?
An S&W Kit .22 for your bag is an excellent idea.
