Hollow Handle Knives and Other Classics (All Randalls Qualify)

Maybe I missed it BUT what are the brands of the top and bottom knife in the picture?

Got my first hollow handle knife. Boker Apparo via Bushy.

 

That is exactly it. I love the Rambo and Commando/Predators knives, probably more than the next guy, but my focus is on making high performance knives that also have a hollow handle. On the smaller ones I prefer an even smaller guard, but the guard like on the SAFE prototype there is what most guys have ordered.

All the extra grind lines and big double lug guards look cool and certainly have their place, but a full flat grind, thin edge paired with good heat treat and appropriate edge angle make for a knife that is a very effective cutter, which is what I use a knife for. Having built-in storage is a plus.

Here are a couple. The orange handled SAFE knife I like a lot (the larger one on the left) because I took the guard down to almost as small as it can be. For pure function and what is necessary/useful for most situations in the wild, this is a great combo in my opinion.

CPM 154 blade, thin grind, steel plated buttcap, and pouch on the sheath give this setup a lot of capability. The only thing I would add is the "micarta" contouring to the handle. But this set was for a customer and didn't have it. The P.A.C.Knife on the right of it was a prototype and now has a slightly fuller blade, like the one in green below it.





Closeup of the steel plated buttcap. The idea behind this was to keep the lightweight aluminum for the buttcap but have a steel surface for pounding so that the aluminum wouldn't get destroyed. All steel buttcaps are very heavy and throw the balance of the knife off, in my opinion.

Thank you, they're all based on a 1" outside diameter tube. The PACKnife has an aluminum tube, although steel is optional, and all the others use a steel tube. The "micarta" layer adds right around 1/16" to the handle, with a slight swell where your fingers wrap around.
