Oh boy my hands are swollen today. No blisters but that uh oh feeling. It was an absolute rush to start getting smoke. The heart and desire was there but the handsies are lacking. More practice.

With hand drill i learned im no good with anything the size of my thumb or bigger. When i went to pinkie size or smaller i could get the velocity for smoke. Just need the hands to cooperate with stamina.

Thanks. I will try the smallest spindle I can find. My hands still feel it today.

So, i may be using poison hemlock for my hand drill spindle. Apparently its not good for friction fire at all according to the internet. Got smoke the other day so ill see what happens.

I don't know if it has been metioned on here but Thomas Coyne has an outstanding video on it which is really lame that I can't find it. But it talks about how to and measurement for optimal friction fires. I will see if I can find it
Ok so the vides are all private. Sorry

Bump! Let's keep this thread and awesome skill alive. I'll be making my return soon, and will start posting regular hand drill fires again.

You should do a bow drill along thread. Mail out a little kit and do a friction fire along thread.

I am in one of the few places in Maine where it eastern red cedar grows. I suspect it is far more widespread than they claim. That said, I have better access to swamp cedar( so white cedar? Idk)
