Man y’all make me envious, I’m not sure in this humid environment I could do that with a dowel rod chucked into a 20v Dewalt drill lol.
Hadn’t done bow drill in a reeeeaaaallly long time (hand drill is generally my friction fire method of choice). Hands were a bit shot today....so gave the ol bow a go.
Thanks man! Definitely a lot of hours paid to get there. Thankful that my friend Mike Lowe showed me how years ago. Hand drill has been a constant since then.
Great inspiration in these posts! Friction fire is something I have seriously struggled with over the years, so far only managed to find one wood that will reliably produce an ember. These pics have motivated me to try a few more combos!
I found a video of someone using elderberry to start a bow drill fire so I brought some home. I have used elderberry for a few things but never thought about trying friction fire with it because of its pithy core. Trouble is everything is sopping wet so I have to try and find what is dead, rotten or green and then dry it all out to give it a go.
