I am planning on attending the Field Survival Class in May of this year and had some questions for past participants/instructors before I attend.

    1. Contacts or Glasses for those who wear them? Were you able to change your contacts each day if you had daily version or was there something you wish you had if you wear glasses?

    2. My buddy plans to attend with me and he uses a rescue inhaler. Would he be permitted to carry it and use it as needed?

    3. Was there a piece of clothing that you wish you had worn or would have changed from what you brought to aid you during the weekend? It looks like you wear the same set of clothes all weekend and having the right pair of socks or underwear seems like an important thing.

    4. What time does the training end on Sunday? Mainly want to know this since I am driving from another state.

    5. If you bring a water bottle over a water bladder, could you bring a bottle sling to carry it in?

    6. Anything else you wish you had known prior to attending or wish you had?

Thanks for anyone who responds! I am very excited to attend the class and have been looking forward to it for quite sometime.

    1. I would say glasses over contacts.
    2. Inhaler would be fine
    3. I would wear clothing that dries out quickly.
    Look at exofficio for underwear.
    4. We are wrapped up no later than 3 pm on sunday. I would still consider crashing in a hotel close by Sunday night. You will be very tired.
    5. Bottle sling is fine as long as there isn’t anything else in it or attached that isn’t allowed.
    6. Others will have to chime in on that one, but I would recommend weaning yourself off caffeine a couple of weeks out. People don’t really think about that one until the caffeine withdrawal headaches kick in.
    Hope this helps.

Thanks @Patrick Rollins for the quick response. This helps out a lot. Are there still spots available for the May class?

it was physical...I was 51 and we built our shelters without our knives, no watch or phones. We had to find our knives the next day with a map and compass. Great Class!

This class isn't about skills....it's a very simple mental challenge....don't quit.

it doesn't matter what knife you bring...what boots you wear, what fire starter....just don't quit. Very little else matters..

Smart clothing is beneficial.....a positive mental attitude is a must...

    My suggestions....
    1. expect to suffer
    2. if you are a heavy coffee drinker...start now weening yourself off caffeine. I had a MAJOR caffeine headache on Day 2 that was damn-near debilitating.
    3. expect little to no sleep or calories for several days.
    4. it will be fun after...but you can try to make it fun DURING as well...

    See you in May.

How much do you pay the participants to take this class?

There ought to be a spectator version of Field Survival, where we can pay to go eat donuts and drink coffee and observe the goings on.
