Most of us call that a clip point or sharpened clip point. Any ESEE knife will get the job done. Other than size, the biggest difference is just personal preference. Personally I don't have a use for the sharpened clip point. I don't have a 4 or plan to get one, but if I did it would probably be a 4HM.
Thx for the replies. I'm backing off the combo blade for a plain blade. I have a Fallkniven F1 and a Becker 16, so I'm duplicating with the ESEE 3 or 4. One reason for the Esee is sheaths: with both the two mentioned sheaths are lousy for street carry, and my purpose is to EDC. So I'm weighing the 3 and 4, which are close to the F1 (3) and B16 (4). But I really like everything about the ESEE line. So far, the ESEE 4P black is in my cart.
The false edge really gets in the way and it makes for a weaker tip. I has 2 and sold them, I now have the 4HM, which is perfect.
Thank you for rhe comment: it answers my suspicions on that. I keep going back to an ESEE 4P-B. That may be my 1st one.
Depending on what you do I’d say a 4 is too big for edc. Even on the farm a 3 was big but I enjoyed the thinner stock.
Yes. I watched a YouTube review by GideonTactical and he complained about the blade thickness on the 4. With the 3, I also have an option of a modified pommel, which looks pretty cool.
Perhaps in a self defence scenario it would make sense due to the higher penetration, but for general use my thumb wanted to go on that false edge way too often.
I understand. And I want a more utilitarian type knife, so have given up on the double. My last couple of decisions are color and modified pommel. The Esee 3P in black seems about right for my 1st one. Thanks for the comment.
Update: placed my order for the Esee 3P, black blade and sheath, last night. From KnifeWorks. I figured the basic E3 to start and later we can check into all the variations of the Esee line. Thanks for all the comments, they helped me decide on this first Esee.
I'd recommend the 4 in stainless with a contoured handle. It is a little thick but you never have to worry about breaking it. The clip points make battening difficult...
My reason for the 3 was EDC. But in the field a stainless has some advantages. My next foray into Esee might be an Esee 6, concentrating on Bushcraft. Thanks for the post.
Got my Esee 3 this AM. First impressions are: Size is right for EDC and fits my smaller hand well Handle is comfortable, well shaped Blade is good size for many tasks with decent belly - glad I went plain blade here. Choil is deep enough for a positive finger placement without concern of slipping Jimping is not too aggressive but still functional Overall balance is very good The appearance is not too tactical and the esthetics of micarta handle in neutral color, red liners, and not so kydex- looking sheath help. So, I attached the belt clip with med threadlock and coated the blade with CLP (use it on everything, especially all my Ka-Bars). Now it's time to go chop down a tree, or maybe feather a stick. Really like this knife; definitely a keeper. Does remind me of a miniature Ka-Bar, my favorite brand, but more a Cadillac as opposed to Chevrolet.
