when I bought mine, a couple years ago, the half-tracks had been manufactured with open ended pockets on each side, next to the hydration sleeves, this was fairly important, as I had planned on using them to carry an axe. However on mine, they were sewn shut. I think that leaving one open and the other closed would be the best option. They also changed the back panel slightly, probably to save money (I am always suspicious of companies changing things for seemingly no reason) They took away some of the ventilation stitching on the pads that run down towards the lumbar, and changed the padding and mesh (for the worse IMO) the newer padding seems to have less give to it that I imagine the older style does (less spongy) , and the mesh is much courser, abrading jackets and shirts in contact with it.

These are all nit pics, but nonetheless, I wish they where not changed. However, I still use my half track quite a bit, it is my hunting pack, and enjoy it.

I hope I don't come off as a complainer, and I do truly like this bag lol. (DEATH TO WHINERS) but I do feel as though it is important to point out the differences between the two generations. Gen two changed the mesh style, padding style, open ended pockets, and added a much more massive lumbar pad (too big to me lol)
Gen 1: notice vertical padding as well as the mesh

Wow, I'm surprised that they did that, mine is obviously the old model.

I do love mine, I bought some other hunting packs and I vowed to offload my Halftrack but I just can't bring myself to do it, its just such a great utility pac, if slightly too heavy for its volume capacity.

if only they had made it from 500d rather than 1000d cordura it would be perfect.
