Just curious if anyone here uses a drone for scouting or reconnaissance? I am looking for some first hand opinions for the uses id have one the farm. Thoughts are it’d be useful checking livestock and property lines, but I’m also wondering if it can help chase off nuisance animals or help our nuisance hunters spot deer.

    Thanks in advance

I have a DJI Mini 3 Pro. There's a Mini 4 out now. Had mine about 1.5 years. I take it hiking sometimes, and looking at property. It's pretty easy to fly, just hovers if you let off the controls. I've had it maybe 50 ft deer before, didn't spook them, but you could tell they could hear it. Might be able to see deer in fields, but not likely in the woods. I'm around a lot of trees, so my range has been maybe 1/2 mile or more before I'm starting to lose or weak signal. Any other questions I'd be happy to answer.

I'm interested in drones, but I have enough going on already.

Also, be careful around dogs. Ours can hear it and she goes crazy, thinks it's a monster and tries to kill it. Funny tho seeing her chase it through the yard, just have to be careful not to be too low where she can catch it.

Looks big in the Photo, but when the arms folded in, the body is about the size of my Cell Phone.

@DiscoveryLover I'm looking at the DJI Mini 3 or 4 (probably 3 due to price). Have you flow it without the remote using your phone instead? It seems less expensive, but I don't love the idea of giving up my phone while I'm using it.

No I haven't flown it with my phone. It came with the nice controller, so never had to. The controller it came with is super nice, worth the extra money to me. Plus I heard people say flying with the phone really taxes it and get's it hot.
Although you do need to connect your phone to the drone by Bluetooth to download the pics/videos.

My drone battery is supposed to last 35 minutes of flight time, never needed it that long, but got an extra battery just in case. Also the drone batteries lose charge if they just sit, so good to top them off once in a while, or make sure they are charge before plan on using it. The controller charge lasts a long time tho. Plus I check mine once in a while to make sure it is updated.
