I've been pretty quiet around here the last year or so but I'm glad to see spirits are up amidst all the excitement. I've been working from home for the last year and a half so the social distancing thing wasn't a big deal to me.... until they "recommended" I do it. Now all I want to do is go somewhere. LOL At least I have plenty of tp, food and beer.
In my mind it is going change alot more than people realize, I am actually seriously considering going and buying a couple cartons of cigarettes and a few rolls of dip. I live in a rural area with lots of smoking and chewing, and I can picture those becoming extremely valuable if non essential (or all) agriculture starts shutting down. I'm not planning to price gouge, just have them for bartering in town for supplies or services. I have plenty of ammo for my own use but I dont plan to barter that, and realistically dont see/hope this won't devolve into full collapse so ammo really wont be that valuable. However after 3 months with out a steady supply of cigarettes, Im betting the guy down at the tire shop will be more than willing to mount and balance a set of tires in exchange for a couple packs, maybe even trade a set of new tires if he still has them for a couple cartons...
Well, I finally lost it ...Was just in Walgreens.. Saw a man whose cart was FULL to the brim with hand sanitizers, baby wipes, soaps, toilet paper, everything that people need!! I called him a selfish *******, and gave him the low down about the elderly, moms, and people who need these types of things. Told him he should be ashamed of himself! He said: “Are you done?!! Cause I really need to get back to restocking the shelves now...”
I’m ready. Got 500lbs of chicken feed for the birds, pantry, freezer, and booze cabinet are stocked. The birds are giving me 7-9 eggs a day right now. I live on a dead end where 5 of the 7 families tend to really help each other out and I’ve got a good group of like minded individuals in a fairly close proximity as a support group.
I am ready. I have watched the Simpsons for years. Everything you need to know about survival is contained there:
A checker at W mart a few days ago made a comment about how I wasn’t buying that much compared to what other folks have been or in line where.. I straight faced told her something along the lines of “well I don’t need to buy much, I always keep a good supply of groceries and other supplies. I also own enough ammo to stop anyone from taking it.” Not sure how she took it as she didn’t say maybe 2 more word to me as I finished checking out.. Gotta keep people on their toes
I was having this discussion yesterday with someone. There is an odd atmosphere at the grocery store. Have you noticed yourself really studying what other people have in their carts, and noticed them really looking at yours? Also, I wish I had bought more eggs when I had the chance. Isn’t necessary but I would like to have some more.
Oh absolutely. We are in uncharted waters here. People are scared and lots of folks who have never thought about stocking up past the weekend are thinking about "what do I need for a month?". Yesterday I was picking up some things for dinner, and mentioned to my gf that we should grab a couple koolaid packets since they stay well. Wouldn't you know it, everyone in that aisle migrated over to the powdered flavorings as soon as we walked away.
