I think it's the fact that there's a market for bones at that price that's most surprising.

We sell local beef bones for about $5/lb. They typically come in 3-4# packages from the processor.

ETA: these are soup bones. Marrow bones are a bit more per pound.

I decided my Shrike was too stark against my coyote brown pack. The black color is too “visible”, like a black shirt is against or in a natural background. Enter a rattlecan of matte sand/tan wildlife blind paint. :)

I definitely like how this turned out.

I pulled off my od green machete and did it as well.
Some wear, flex, scratches, and mud stains should finish the look perfectly.

How do you like it @anrkst6973 ? I want to retry and RMJ hawk. Thinking about trading my Winkler for an RMJ Jenny Wren

I absolutely love my Shrike Del. It’s more fun than a barrel of monkeys to play with and I’d recommend RMJ to anybody.
That being said if I had my druthers I’d get a Kestrel over a Jenny Wren. I think the Jenny is fine as say, a backpackers lite chopper, but I don’t think it has the length for really good velocity swings. Also the spike poll on the Kestrel, Shrike, and Talon versions is the best designed, and properly angled, version of dozens I’ve tried over the years.

you won’t believe this, but 25 years ago I got a simple 22 oz East wing framing hammer.. that purchase led me directly to the Shrike I’m using today. I’m here to tell ya today, there is no equal, no comparison, if you need a hammer get an Eastwing. If you need a destructive axe, get an RMJ. The $$ are worth every ounce of sweat you paid to get one. Bar none.

That's like having someone mention a best friend you haven't seen for years. I've got one in the basement with the waffles nearly gone, I really should tune it up and find someone that will put it to work again. Only complaint ever was the ring it put off, a small bit of rag and some tape takes that right down.

We met up with some friends from work Sunday to shoot skeet. While we were filling up the throwers 2 deer came running through the field between the skeet towers and the sporting clays course.

anyone else find that they just are not up for the cold weather activities as they get older?
I used to love all my normal ouutdoor activities even during the coldest months but lately, if it gets below 20 degrees I cannot bring myself to step outside of the house unless i have to and its bumming me out because I always enjoyed the keeping warm aspect of outdoors activities in the winter.

Yes. It does happen. I went threw the past 4 years not wanting to hit the slopes because I just didn’t want to do the cold anymore. I was just sick of it. This year something changed and I’m back on the slopes and loving the cold. No clue what happened.
Just went Friday and it was -15 out. Didn’t even phase me.

went out to help a friend cut up some branches from a tree limb that fell and we found out the whole tree was rotted out on the inside. Worst part was I kept thinking thank goodness I live in Hawaii or a raccoon would jump out and attack me.

Used my @Mythical_Beast Forge knife to cut the tree down. Ok, ok had a little help from a chainsaw.

All cut up and ready to haul away. They are hosting Boy Scouts next weekend for camping and community service. So I’m hoping some strong scouts can get it cleared out. If not we’ll get the tractor and tow strap out next time.

Was a bit wet out today. If you zoom in you may be able to see some of the waterfalls. We counted 7 in this valley as we drove in.

I was in Sportsman's Warehouse today and discovered that apparently someone is making Schrade brand knvies in the USA again. The models they had were a two pack that were on clearance, for obvious reasons, but it did interest me enough to do an internet search once I got home. I have some nostalgia for the brand because many of my role models growing up carried pocket knives from the original company.

Judging by their website, I haven't been missing anything. I knew it wouldn't be anything like their old knives, but those are some sorry looking designs. Shrade is just a name now.

Agreed. It does make me happy that somewhere in the USA someone is going to work everyday and producing them though.
