Same technique we where taught and if it won't start forward reverse will, Suzuki stockman used to manage it with its tiny little petrol 970cc engine
I've had both in Jeeps and trucks in 4wd and don't prefer or dislike either. I do like trail riding with autos since I can focus more on technical lines, but in mud i've always had better luck with a standard.
