I ordered a Libertariat as a silent Santa gift for one of my grandsons. It is nice and will fill a niche in his collection. Before I send it on I want to touch up the blade but do not have a lot time with the season here so I am going to use my Ken Onion Work Sharp. The Work Sharp does a good [not great] job and is quick. I would like input from those who have had a chance to get some experience with this knife what edge would you put on this knife?
I believe pre (re?) sharpening is uneeded Boots, every Esee or Condor I've ever gotten was shaving sharp right out of the box.
My Libertariat was not shaving sharp out of the box, it was sharp but not what I wanted. It just took a few minutes with a ceramic stone and a strop and it was slicing through paper nicely. In my opinion it came plenty sharp for its intended use, it came out of the box ready to chop.
Mine wasn’t really what I would call sharp either. I’ve beat on some things already and it needs some love when I have time.
I keep mine ship shape with a DMT diamond and a homemade strop that has Flexcut Gold on one side and black compound on the other. Pretty much the same for all cutlery in my house.
Mine was machete sharp which means it got the DMT red diamond treatment and black compound strop. I did my best to maintain the factory bevel. It is damn sharp now. I could not have done it with a strop alone.
Weeellll...Right by the lanyard hole.......but a couple swipes with a fine file and some sandpaper... There ain't no complaints from me, though. Wish I had another one.
Here you go. Got to skin out a bobcat with it on Thanksgiving and was impressed at how well it worked. Will also cut the head off one with one whack. All in all, pretty happy with it.
