I belong to an edc group on Facebook. Mini pry bars seem to be a popular edc item. People will spend hundreds of dollars on a fancy wedge tool that will never pry anything. One of my buddies spends hundreds of dollars on these pocket trinkets. I made this one out of a piece of bronze I found at work. Took me about 5 minutes. Some makes make similar ones and charge alot for them. Anyone of you guys got any?

It's a work in progress. Plan on cutting a pop bottle opener in the other end of it.

Yes I have a STR Titanium jobby (sound much more expensive than it was) on my key ring and has scratched, scrapped pried and twisted many things. I generally can't carry a knife at work so it gets used for many small tasks. But like so many things the "EDC Crowd" (different from the prepared crowd ;) ) have managed to corrupt it into some kind of status symbol and in doing so given artificial value to otherwise very cheap items....I see a use for mini pries... however explain to me the EDC Fidget Spinner........

I originally made the one from bronze because I needed something to tap on end Mills to indicate them in. I couldn't find a co workers brass one that he made. I figured I'd make it pretty cool looking like the ones I see on the edc pages.

I forgot about this one I have. Made by guy called Carver on an edc group.

That's what I noticed on edc pages. Their pocket trinkets are nothing more than a status symbol.

Mini pry bars can be quite handy, or totally useless. All depends on the design and materials used. I've got a Widgy bar and a Vaughan mini pry bar that have both come in handy on many occasions. The Vaughan won't get any prestige points but it's a very capable tool that's USA made and costs, like, $5 or so.

I generally think they are a waste of space. It has a lot to do with my workplace. I’m surrounded with proper tools at work so a mini pocket tool is not useful. And I will get my butt chewed if I end up hurting myself with my own tool at work. Why would I ever use a mini tool when I have a claw hammer and crowbar on my forklift all the time.

I don't have a mini pry and have never had the need for one. Pocket status symbols are lame. Now, I do often carry a pair Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers on my keychain and use them ALL the time. They are awesome tweezers if you don't know about them.

Personally I don’t have a use for one for what I do everyday. (Nothing) When I was working in the plumbing industry I could have absolutely seen the need to keep one in my pocket. To each his own.

they can be super useful, or not. Best use i had for one (when i used to carry a little 5" pry bar) was for wedging open my B2200 door to gain access with a coat hanger.

other than that, the super cool ti / Damascus etc are cool, but overrated. But each to their own! I collect weird design self defense knives.......(tops backbite, etc) so i cant really mock others in their collection choices...LOL

I have a Gerber Shard on my keys. That's as close as I can get to a mini prybar. It's a handy little thing, though.

Useful tool for some, jewelry for others. Some will pay a lot of money to own special ones just to be seen with special ones.

See also: guns, knives, pens, watches, coolers...

This site has it's share of both tool users and jewelry collectors.

Not my money = don't give a damn.
