My local gun shop had a used beretta 92 in the back of the used case for a good price. I'm currently without a large frame auto and would like one soon. I put cash down today and will get the gun next Friday when I get paid. Other then adding the G decocker conversion, is there anything else I need to know or buy? Oh and pics would be great to hold me over.
I've had one for years. I acquired the .22lr conversion kit for mine so I can blast away with 9mm or rimfire. I think it's a great pistol right out of the box, so I haven't changed anything.
Mine is 9mm. I'm scratching an itch. Always wanted a 92. Price was good and the cash was available, I'm only going to have 26 hours of overtime on this paycheck. You can't take the money with you when you die, right.
I love the aesthetics of the M9, had one for a while, but it's had a few too many cupcakes IMHO. Ol' girl has a little too much meat on her for my hand. I couldn't operate it comfortably or accurately in DA, but I also don't have gorilla paws, so it is what it is on that one. I'll just be over here in envy, awaiting pictures.
Y'all are correct about the calibers. 92 is 9mm and 96 is 40 cal. I have a 92fs Inox that I like. I prefer my Sigs and HKs , but the Betetta is a fine handgun.
Come on. We ALL wanted one after watching Lethal Weapon. I've handled a few and they all shot very nice. Looking forward to your thoughts. Congrats
The 92 (actually it's Taurus knock-off) was my first real pistol. After a few years (and salary upgrades) I sold the Taurus and got a real 92FS. They are both good pistols and I fired thousands of rounds through the Taurus and hundreds through the Beretta. No malfunctions in either case, with factory and hand-loaded ammo. I think the reliability and ease of disassembly/cleaning make this a standout platform. The .mil folks have had some issues with them (they break everything, if we're honest), but for a home defense or full-size carry gun (mine have been both) for a civilian I'm not sure you'd ever see the end of one. I have noticed that you either like the ergonomics of the 92/96 or you don't. It's a bit polarizing. The CZ-75 family (another great 9mm) seems to be much the same. The only 9mm I've shot lately that I like better is Sig Legion family, but that's twice the price of the 92.
I bought a 92FS in 1993. Still have it. At the time, it was great. I think it's been passed by since then by other guns, but it's a classic. As I got really into training, I came to despise the placement of the decocker/safety. But, it's one to have in the collection.
The safety issue can be remiedied with the G decocker conversion. That was a major factor in my decision to buy. It's one of those guns that I have to own. Maybe it was all the action movies in the 80s and 90s.
