It's just another reason I like the RGSR, it's adaptable to the shooters needs. Getting old's a bitch, so when your no longer able to focus with a LER you can easily go conventional or more magnification for different hunting cenario's.
I really like the iron sights on it. But, you don't even need a scope. A red dot would be a good choice for this rifle, too. Also, probably the easiest on the eyes.
The new Ruger American in 7.62x39 would make for an interesting and practical scout. Cheap ammo, light recoil, and common magazine. Too bad they didn't drill and tap the barrel for that scope rail.
I was thinking the same thing. Pretty easy for a gunsmith to do though. This, after all, how the first scout rifles came about.
I just need the 10rnd detachable box magazine conversion kit for it... I'm really liking these express sights.
Great looking rifle. 10 round magazine? Uh, I don't think you will need to shoot anything with that cartridge ten times or would want to...
Just picked up my new ranch rifle, Ruger GSR, from a local gun dealer. Stainless 16" barrel, synthetic stock, 6.1 lbs. Mauser style bolt/extractor Muzzle brake Comes with a steel 10 rd magazine and I decided to add a couple of Magpuls, two 5 and 1 ten round. I like the Magpul poly much better. My son and I spent about 3 hours shooting/zeroing the iron sights yesterday. Enjoy the moments with your kids.
@Datilite Yes. The first day shooting I spent a couple of hours with the iron sights and realized that my almost 60 year old eyes may not be up to that task anymore.
I got round ones. With screws in them to tighten it down so the scope doesn't move around. I like them so far.
I was thinking about a pair of low Warne QD rings. Less screws to screw with and I think they may be round enough.
