Have it glued, stained and horse hair done. Leave it sit for a couple days then add the copper rivets. Then wax the helmet and and clear coat the other parts.

Anyone know where I can find a tutorial or build along for a Skookum Bushtool style sheath? I found several for various nordic/Scandinavian backsewn sheaths. I have never actually held a bushtool sheath, and maybe I could figure it out if I could see some pictures other than the front of the sheath, so if you happen to have one, would you mind snapping a few pictures for me? It seems to be a fairly basic backsewn sheath...

I recently started a little project to make a leather haversack style bag. I ended up with a bit of leftover goatskin because I had bought ~10 sq. ft. of leather. I made a few smaller drawstring bags. My wife wanted one for a coin pouch and my little guy wanted a pouch for all of the little knickknacks that 5 year olds like. 20170714_235910.jpg 20170715_000745.jpg IMG_20170722_134351754.jpg

Well this was a kick right square in the balls. Put this one together for a new spec Survive 4.1 and I loved how the design came out.

I punch my holes with an awl chucked up in my drill press, usually works good as long as I pay close attention to how I'm holding the leather so it doesn't get out of level. I got distracted and off focus while I was doing this one and this happened.

It doesn't happen often but it makes me crazy when it does. I'll sew it up and keep it for myself, I just wish I'd screw up the left handed sheaths so I wouldn't mind keeping those so much.

Most of you guys probably already know this but I thought it worth mentioning. I saw something on one of Paul Long's videos about thinning out Barge to make it easier to work with and to help it penetrate the leather better. (Heh, I said penetrate.) I bought a glue pot and thinned out my Barge with cement thinner and I don't have empirical evidence to show it's making the leather adhere better but it feels like I'm getting a quicker, more solid bond when I put the pieces together. It's definitely easier to work with. I don't get the boogers I used to always fight and it seems like I can get two or three coats of the Barge ready to go together when they're thinned quicker than I'd get one coat of un-thinned Barge ready.

Where are you all getting your leather for sheaths? There isn't a Tandy within a four hour drive, and I don't need a lot, but I do want some quality pieces that I have to buy sight unseen.

Tandy has some good stuff, but get the European sides beautiful leather little higher price but no bug marks and no branding marks. Tandy you can order off line and shipped to you, if you order that you will be happy with it.

I have seen Tandy leather at Hobby Lobby. They sale a veg tan piece that is large enough for a couple of sheaths.

Tandy generally ships from the closest store when ordering online. Doesn't hurt to call and talk to the shop and ask for them to look over the leather and choose the best piece for you.
