Most of the stores have them in---for now. They are going quick. Go get 'em!

Did blade hq buy any? I don't see them on their website, but they're about 5 miles from me.

    ^ and a HUGE discount.........!!!!!

i will however support my local knife dealer for this cleaver buy. They are going to hold the lowest serial number they get for me.

@Bushman5 -- I got mine with the serial number "scrubbed". I don't want to be leaving any trails.

The joke is on you. The Mole says all these cleavers are chipped with a GPS tracker. It sounds Big Brotherish, but it doubles as a PLB. Another example of Expat looking out for his subjects, er... customers.

You and me, brother, you and me.

Did I mention that The Mole also leaked that in addition to tracking the cleavers, the chip also includes an accelerometer so Expat will know who is throwing his cleavers? As a leader in the new school of consumer products, Expat isn't SELLING you a cleaver, he is LEASING you a cleaver. Sort of like the software on the computer you are using to read this. You don't OWN it, you are just LEASING it, thus the need for you to agree to the Terms and Conditions. And so it shall be with Expat Knives. According to @TheMole. (not to be confused with @TheESEEMole who is a poser and not the real deal.)

Theres some good ideas in this thread.

I saw Ben from BladeHQ at Blade Show every day and I know he spent some time with Jeff so I would imagine they ordered some but I dont know that for a fact.

Does anyone know if the black G10 on the Cleaver is available for purchase? I'd love to put a matching set on my Junglas.

You can buy them at most dealers.

I've seen them for around $150. Seems high, I know. But, they come with a free cleaver.

Some people (me included) decided to switch our scales out with wood ones. So I'm sure someone would be willing to sell theirs. I may be persuaded as well, since I'm not going to try to put them back on.

Maybe next time Expat puts out a blade, he will make sure it has some sexy scales on it.

Black is the new...Black. Always sexy.

Part of the fun is modding it. So, it'll always come with the most common handle.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason you went with g10 over the micarta scales that the junglas uses?

Finally a decent question. I knew if I stayed on this board, there would eventually be someone intelligent to talk to.

As a matter of fact, there is a specific reason. Much of the designed usage of the cleaver revolves around food prep. G10 is just naturally less absorbent than micarta. When you are talking about raw meat, blood, etc., we wanted to create less of a platform for germs to grow. It is easier for that to happen in micarta than G10. It's that simple.

We know that regardless of this, some people will still prefer micarta and so they have that option--another reason the handle is the exact same as the Junglas--scales are interchangeable and the aftermarket stuff will fit on the cleaver with no modifications.

So, yes, basically a sanitary thing.
