Well I already had indoor jobs lined up. Putting a new gun safe in the basement. I hope I'm not in trouble for doing this instead. It was really a helluva a lot fun.
I dropped my little brother's doe off at the butcher. That was outdoors. Gonna go indoors and eat all you can eat baby back birthday ribs and drink lots of beers while I do it
I took my three year old daughter, alone, to the mall so she could pick out a Christmas gift for Mom. That was enough away from home time for me today. I'll stay inside where it's safe and people free.
I went down to the beaver pond. 20 gal/min through the dam in bright sun at 34F in a stiff wind. Now, rewatching Vikings, first four seasons, starting at season 1, now in ep 2. Does that count?
I went for a woods walk with rifle in hand in case I happened upon some unharvested venison. walked 2 or 3 miles total, spent about 6 hours outside. moved a deer stand, pulled the trigger once and tore a strip of hide off a young 4-pointer's belly (he jumped as I fired) spent quite some time tracking and criss-crossing a hayfield making sure he wasn't suffering. spooked up 3 other deer and a coyote while I was looking for the one. sat in a tree for an hour watching nature - and listening to a squirrel go OFF on something I couldn't see in the brush. eventually, it started to get dark, so I went home and fed the dogs.
get your deer? friend of mine grazed a deer once. He musta spent the whole day finding it. Eventually he did find it, it was grazing in a shrubby tree area, seemingly unfazed by the hole in it. My buddy took another shot and made some incredible deer fennel paprika sausages. they are quite fun to watch as they go about their day aren't they?
never found him - but since he was moving at a high rate of speed the last I saw him and I never found any blood, I figure it really was just a graze - especially since I found the <2" long by 1/8" wide strip of hide with white fur attached and a couple other tufts of white fur all in a straight line a few feet behind where he had been before the shot. I'm betting it's taken worse from some of the honey locust on the property.
