Going with a pistol or little semi rifle stalking is probably the biggest rush while hunting I’ve ever experienced. When you put two rounds into momma and her 30-50# piglets all come running through your legs.

First moose seen in a long time in that area (Siska First Nations Band land),

that's a good sign, the moose are returning after the wilderness fires.

Took (he drove his vehicle) a buddy up to Lytton BC area for an overnighter.

nice drive up the Fraser Canyon, several hundred KM's to Lytton. The canyon gets little snow compared to the canyons on the other sides of the massive mountain ranges (they get hammered with extreme snow / ice - like the Highway Thru Hell - Coquihalla Hwy
    and Hwy 3 , etc .

spotted a moose head on the side of the Hwy, most likely poached. Still had one antler attached , I wanted to cut it off for a knife handle but chose not to (legalities) 5FC0D56A-526B-4A3A-98FF-AFC62DB5CCA9.jpeg

we got to Lytton / Thompson River area to our planned camp in the foothills. However the 1' deep snow (non issue really) and 30-40 Km ice winds were a huge issue. We decided to head back the way we drove and find a sheltered area. Found a nice little Billy Goat road that turned into a flat sheltered camping area. It had pre cut Douglas fir log rounds too, as well as ample dead bone dry branches everywhere.

Report coming , enjoy the pics

night was approaching fast, so I started cooking for us. Got the charcoal going in the Lodge grill, to sear the pre-marinated beef for the stew and give it a nice mesquite wood smoke flavour.

used the charcoal from the grill to heat up the 3/4 size Potjie Pot , to which I added the prepped veggies/ spices/ seared & smoked meat. Let it simmer an hour or two .

dinner was epic . Nothing like good friends, campfire , outdoors, cast iron cooking .

Full report coming, enjoy the pics

finished a huge dinner, got the fire going fierce to build up a huge coal bed. I was planning to sleep in front of the fire, with my reflective tarp behind me, canvas tarp and foam mattress underneath me, plus my sleeping bag.

I put 4 x 20" dry Douglas fir rounds on the fire, plus heaped branches on top.

fire was too hot to be near , it actually started melting my canteen from the radiant heat.
Temps were dropping , around - 10 C with wind chill. Buddy slept in his car, haven't got him into roughing it just yet.

slept warm and well , burned out from work, all that fresh air etc. Got up several times to refill the canteen and drain the lizard. Was actually quite dehydrated despite drinking a lot of water all day / night.

Slept almost 12 hours. Woke up to buddy stoking the fire. First thing I did was fire up the Ghillie Kettle to boil water for hot chocolate. Then piled tons of wood onto the coal bed (all the big log rounds had burned away) .

made an epic breakfast of applewood smoked thick cut bacon, hash browns with red peppers and onions, chopped Afrikaans Boerwor sausage and topped off with half a dozen over easy farm eggs.

we had planned to ruck up into the open foothills, but both of us were pretty burnt out from work. Decided to head back to town.

Holy Carp - i haven't been in the woods for a long time. No wonder I'm losing my mind and going crazy here in the city :(

did a short ruck today - trip report when I'm back..........

Headed up to a BC Hydro access road in the woods , up the Sea To Sky Hwy.

donned the webbing, wandered up the old dirt road. Found big cat tracks halfway up, decided to follow them

    7A1C6F7D-F8DB-4843-BFB0-4E16ACD0EF63.jpeg 111AF7F8-0B01-40E7-A115-F1369A34C1E8.jpeg 7B6F02E2-9BC9-429E-BB26-B312C135F65C.jpeg

Tracks petered out on the gravel sections , but I was able to follow a fair ways.

the Hydro line clearing crews built a lunch spot outta cedar. I set up the benches and broke out the TOPS HAKET . Chopped a fairly hard 5" log with ease. Bites deep (both ends). Review will follow in the Reviews section.

wandered more up the old spur roads. You can easily find old spurs on Sat views in BC , due to the unique alder tree growth that springs up after the FSR's / Spurs are decommissioned.

pics from todays Church Of The Woods

    Webbing rig shots:

found a hidden slot in the Tardigrade Tactical Recon ButtPack. Fits a machete sheath nicely. Can't draw the blade though, the canteen pouch would get cut. But it's PERFECT transport area

fatwood tower score - about 75 lbs worth. Bucked it down with the silky 2000 and hauled it out. Dropped it off at a buddies house so he could process it for his winter camp

boo boo repair - long strip of thin cedar bark, pulled off a wind downed tree, pounded soft with a thick round stick, wrapped snug around a "wound" and tied off. Naturally antiseptic and tough , easy to improvise a tiny cut or large wound bandage. Can be bulk packed into wounds or rolled into a plug, for bullet holes.

Torture testing the Magpul Daka pouch for @anrkst6973

Literally kicked it for a klick on a gravel / dirt / rocky FSR , with the SIEGE STOVE inside, to prove to @anrkst6973 that the DAKA pouch was durable enough for the siege stove components.

Had my THROWSTICKS dot com Wedge War Club / thrower / digging stick with me

    IMG_3278.jpeg IMG_3168.jpeg

threw it up the FSR as I walked

finished torturing the Magpul Daka pouch, stowed the throw stick in my webbing and wandered down the FSR to get a big piece of fatwood for the lunch fire

headed back up a spur road and started building a fire reflector shelter. It's a work in progress, lots to do , but I did my best on several hours to get a lot of stuff done.... unlike the YouTube shelter / cabin / etc builders that build a complete 1000 sf cabin / shelter / etc in 20 minutes o_O:rolleyes:, mine took a little longer and will take multiple visits to finish. It's a lot of work sawing , chopping, splitting , dragging poles etc.

While I like watching shelter / cabin builds on YouTube, I feel they embellish how fast they build them, or they use full on machinery and chainsaws instead of axes, knives, handsaws...

sawing / chopping poles (these are pest trees, and they grow rapidly on FSR roads - not an issue clear cutting them.

it's not a waterproof shelter - it's a fire reflector . Could be a waterproof shelter with a heavy plastic tarp over it.

. Still gotta build a bench to sit on, , a fire pit in front , and fall more poles to add to the reflector.

it overlooks Howe Sound. Great spot for a fire and hot chocolate.
