I think it will serve me well.

I have roughly 2,800 acres here I maintain. That means a lot of roads, trails & paths.

If I in the truck or the side by side. I have a full contingent of tools. Chain saws, pole saw, lopers,
    Pruning saws, and more.

But sometimes when you're just out walking, you see a branch that needs trimming.

I often carry an axe or a Silky, or an Opinel #12 saw on my belt.

But it would be nice at time to just lop stuff off and get it out of the way.

The road and trail maintenance here has been more than a bit neglected. There are tons of small evergreens that have sprouted up too close to the roads. Some stretches it resembles going through a tunnel.

I actually spent much of yesterday doing just this on the main road that runs the length of the property.
I like the work, but it is time consuming. partly because when I have enough material, I try and fashion some sort of critter habitat.

These guys are primarily deer hunters & fishermen. But I'd like to see the turkey, rabbit and game bird population increase. If piling brush in such a way that it provides some shelter and breeding opportunities, it's time well spent.

With owls, hawks, eagles, osprey, coyotes and bobcats, in abundance, they need all the help they can get.

Rabbits here are scarce. I saw a 20 ish flock of turkeys yesterday. Partridge also seem to be around.

    Deer and bear are prevalent.

    J2 should be here Saturday!

    Sounds like fun!

I road the snot out of a rigid fat bike for a while. A Surly Pugsley. Great bike.
    Not single speed, but rigid.

I was riding to town for coffee a few days a week. then up onto the logging roads after that.
Nothing epic, town was a 5 mile round trip. If i went to state trails it would extend to 12-15 miles depending on my level of commitment.

I was riding a lot and enjoying it immensely.
Then I slapped in the back of the head by a mirror attached to a Dodge 1500 pickup.
No real damage, but it spooked me. I was three feet on the ditch side of the white line.
She dropped her cigarette lighter and was trying to pick it up when she hit me.

I've been a cyclist since I was 13 (50 now) and I've been hit 4 times...had a very similar episode YEARS ago and woke up in a ditch....I heard the 4barrel of a whatever it was kick in right before the lights went out...Since the closing of my bike shop and my time at ESEE I've not ridden as much, but the desire to MTB is there. I've ridden my road bike about 5x in 5 years and I think I'm done there...too many distracted drivers on the road...but I love the MTB..

    4 times??
    Wow,

When I told my story to a buddy of mine.
He told me of his father-in-law from Texas.
The guy retired at 58. He bought a bike to ride and stay healthy.

The first week he was out, a truck struck him from behind in a similar fashion to mine.
Only the mirror housing cracked and severed his carotid artery. Done deal one week into retirement.

I have about 2,800 acres here (not mine) so another bike is appealing. but man have they shot up in price.

    Too Funny!

I have owned and ridden a motorbike for 40 years. I think I'm done.

For the reasons @shaneadams90 pointed out.
Nobody just drives any more. they are talking, texting, playing video games, smoking dope,
    Just too much distraction.

In 34 years on road bikes. I have only had one semiserious get off.
I figure my luck is running out.

I do often consider a KLR for back roads bumming and trail riding.
A used one is almost cheaper than a new fat bike.

For fun, I often read the OZ forum on ADV.
I totally enjoy the way you guys ride bikes and overcome adversity.

The Postie threads crack me up.

...... you have seen my hunting bike right ..... :D

I was a Postie for a couple of years in the early 90s.....I have many many hours on the seat of one of those things !!! They also imported a version here with High and Low Range mode.....not very common at all now.....if I could find one of them I would probably buy it. Best part about a CT is that if the track is bad you just step off and walk it up. Oh....I wrote two of them off while in that job.... a record of sorts I am told. One I jumped but came down front wheel first and cracked out the neck...... in the other I was taken out by a 4yo boy with a van door......

A 2x11 hardtail with 120 mm fork. I do a couple thousand kilometers per summer in the local wood, usually ride before work and do a bigger ride on the weekend. The MTB season just started for me as we had a cold March, but it's around 20 Celsius now.

    That's a big box for a small knife :D
    Congratulations!

Speaking of MTB, the trail I ride the most has had some dry pines falling on it, around 10" in diameter, so I ordered a Silky Big Boy to cut and remove them, will use the J2 for delimbing.
